Are your cases engraved?

I noticed that my engine cases have a number scribed into them on the 2 case halves. They look like a handwritten set of numbers by a metal scribe or something and not stamped in like I would expect to see from the factory. I've never seen this before on any other engine though and this one has supposedly never been out of the sled????

is it on the lower case left hand side under the left intake? mines got that two, but mine has been out before.

All of them are engraved... marked during machine work at the factory
