He was not the most crusmatic speaker I have ever seen but that has never mattered much to me.

On one hand, it's not surprising at all. Think about the text books you had in school. What's the first thing you need if the goal is a communist population? Of course it is unbridled national pride (ethnocentrism of a sort) and the belief that your government had never done wrong and are always justified in it's decisions. We don't have to look very hard to find examples of this. Think about slavery, the Trail of Tears, etc. These text book accounts are hardly ever empathetic to the side opposite of the U.S. ( so yes, all you super conservatives, you are falling into the communist way of thinking )

On the other hand, Brazilla Carroll Reece, the head of the Reese committee, was a extremely conservative politician in a time of unprecedented anti-communism (1950's). There were others - Joseph McCarthy comes to mind - that did everything in their power to declare everything that they deemed "anti-American" as communism.

Regardless, it's worth the watch or read. Great fodder for debate.
