Hey Everyone,
I spend most of my time in the 'Utah Riding Areas' forum. I live in Davis County Utah and ride locally quite a bit. Our family just bought a cabin near Summit Campground just West of Malad Pass (backing Caribou Natl Forest). I've been up to 8400 feet in the area on dirtbikes. It's incredible in the summer... lots of trails and very technical areas.
We are hoping to use the cabin year-round... are there any decent snowmobile riding areas near by? Ideally we'd like to leave from the cabin and snowmobile into the higher country.
I'm getting a little concerned this area may not get much snow. I jumped on Snotel.com and the historic snow numbers didn't look great.

Any help for a Utah... Wannabe Idaho boy??:face-icon-small-hap

I believe snotel is right, it seems like that it misses that part of Idaho and comes over here to Frankin/Cache County and dumps over here.

I worked over in Malad last year and they never really got much snow, there were times my wife would call and say that it was dumping in Weston or Franklin and it was only cloudy in Malad?? They had a few good storms but for some strange reason it seems like that is bounces over that part of Idaho just to dump it 15 miles east of there!!!

Hmmmm. Thanks for the info. Can you recommend good riding areas within a half hour or so from Malad summit. Is there good riding up the canyon toward summit campground?
Brad

I think your best option would be to head over to Cub River by Franklin, There is some riding between Malad and Weston but for the fun stuff I would really just head over there, it's probably a 40 minute drive from the summit.

a good place is the scout mountain area, you probably can park around big onion over at hawkins reservoir or park at the good-enough area that is by the mccammon exit.

We ride over their allot and the the scout mountain area is pretty good, needs more snow right now.

Yep I agree......best bet his to head down off the summit and take the cut over to preston and hit bloomington/cub river/franklin. Fantastic riding there.

I haven't ever ridden there, but to the north you can hit soda springs and there is some good riding out of soda, and catch a good soak in the hotsprings on your way back.;)

Thanks for the reply everyone. Hope to find some great areas as we explore this area. We're hoping not too trailer too much, just ride from the cabin.

Any other ideas are appreciated.
Brad
