Are all the Turbo kits putting out the exact same power per pound?

For example, if the MCX kit is putting out 310hrspwr does it have the same torque as an Alpine kit putting out 310hrspwr? Just wondering if they all (Impulse, Synergy, Boondocker, MCX, Alpine etc.) do the same job once their spooled up?:beer;

NO!

compressor efficiency, intercooler efficiency, header/downpipe, all play a role in how much hp you make per lb of boost.

From what I have seen in the mountains HP #'s are for people to talk about on the internet! Try to say their kit is better then the next so they can sell more kits! LMAO. Dont seem to make your sled go faster in the hills. I have seen suposed 400 hp sleds get beat by 300 mabey hp. Just go ride your kit and dont have much worry, just lots of fun.

agreed, it doesn,t really matter the hp, its the whole set up.

setup and rider, especially if were talking mtn's which im sure we still are here.

Hes saying, "it is what it is" mattymac. The vendor can tell you what ever you want to hear but means crap when your out ridding.I seen guys put a pipe on there rev and lose power but the dyno said, "gains of 12 hp"??? And your right set up and rider is everything. My bd kit is capable of 375hp if i did... Have i seen those #s never. Will i? nope. But my sled is dam fast makes me smile and goes with some of the best out there. Some of the posts reminded me of being at the track with my mustang and talking with a young kid in the pits.He had every small bolt on part you could buy, exhaust, pulley's, air filter ect..He added up the gains the vendors told him he would possible get, The kids hp # were huge in his world. But man that car was slow when he got to actually run.lol So kinda the same as Mike was talking with supposed400hp getting beat by 300 hp. I like to compare kits for lag, response and to see what sled or set up works best as well, but on the hill where the true tale is told.Dynos give you a base line but the rest is on the hill at altitude and its hard to get a dyno on the hill. I also agree with the all turbos put out diff. # but set up is a huge factor for sure.

boost# and Hp

Yes HP # will go up as we figure out more effencency.
Hurricane has gotten some very big HP # with lower boost etc.
Cams, cam timing, turbo, header, intercooler etc.
Dyno setup right will tell the truth about who's making real HP #
SAE HP is just that.
Try making 400 HP with only 20 psi boost!
Just ask the Dyno guys that do independant runs on these kits.

By changing setup on same motor but with different turbo, header etc Dave at Hurricane pulled a extra 100 HP !

you can make all the hp you want on a dyno but if you can,t get it to the ground and be able to handle it it doesn,t mean anything, dyno hp. and on the hill hp. are two different things.

But if you dyno it and get the motor to make power, and you DO get it to the ground then doesnt that matter? It goes both ways, you can have all the HP in the world but if you cant harness it then its a waste. But if you have the best chassis/drivetrain setup with a pi$$ poor badly tuned motor then what?

Im not saying that dyno's are bad by any means, they are probably one of the most valuable tuning tools used today (when used correctly and by people who know how to use them) Its just easy to inflate numbers and thats why they get a bad rep sometimes.

I agree if you can make the hp and get it to the ground thats the best of both worlds, the problem is most dyno,s are at low elevation and what works at low elevation and what works at 10,000+ ft. are two different things. I know some don,t agree with that but it is a fact. that 400 hp sled at 2000 ft. may not work effeciently at 10,000 ft. but alot of guys will buy it because it dynoed at 400 hp. and then wonder why that 250 hp. sled is kicking there but at high elevation.

agreed!

But also look at the masses, most people just buy a kit, bolt it on and expect it to scream day in and day out, its getting to where the guy with the most money wins. Im young but old school Ive had to make or build my stuff from the ground up and still like to tune and for the most part feel that im very good at it. It bugs me to see people buy a turnkey sled or have someone build a mod sled for them and either beat everyone and say look what I did, or get beat and point the finger at the other guy and get mad at them?!?!

Theres always someone who's faster, can go higher on the mtn, quicker or have more power. Every sled has its day and being able to adapt to the changes in diffrent condtions gets the win in my book. But to each his own!

I hear you, I still do all my own work as will, and tune it myself. my clutching isn,t always what the masses use but it usaully works better.
