Arctic secondary

Ok guys I am haven a heck of a time with the belt tentioning on a 08 M8 (stock)

I have perchased all 3 different depth shims to try to get the belt alittle tighter and it just isnt workin :)
I have tried all different set ups and they just dont seem to be loosining nor tightining ???? the belt

HELP PLEASE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you are adding/removing shims are you lifting the belt out of the sheeves to allow the sheeves to move?
From my experince, a thin washer made a noticeable difference in belt deflection.

Adding shims will not allow the collar to open the sheeves as far (tighter belt)
The bolt must be tight to get a correct reading.

The BDX adjuster is always an aption... Just keep in mind it does not come with an adjustment tool, and it is metal to metal contact when adjusting.
I like mine, but it could have been designed better.

I take the belt off and add shims and it is like I can not add enough to take up the slack ???
I add so many the shims are showing between the face of the clutch and the bolt head and still the belt is slack ???
and after adding shims replace the belt and it looks the same ??

I just dont get it , I must be doing something wrong ??!!

Leave the bolt/collar/shims out... No bolt or anything... Put the secondary on.
The clutch sheeves should be the closest to eachother as possible at this point.
Install the belt and it too should be as tight as it can possibly get (sheeves closest to eachother). Unless the belt itself is holding the sheeves open.
If it is still too loose, you have something else going on.
Like I said in my previous post... Once you make an adjustment you need to push and rotate the belt by holding it on top and on bottom while pushing towards the back of the sled... The belt itself can hold the sheeves open if you do not do this and you will not be able to adjust it correctly.
Basically you need to be able to rotate the belt by hand without the clutches moving (no side pressure on the belt) to get a proper reading of belt deflection.

ok here goes

I took all shims out of the collar replaced the collar with O-ring and the bolt , the sheeves continued to touch untill I tightened up the bolt , then the sheeves began to seperate with no shims in at all ???
doesnt make much sense??
I did not try to place the belt on, for I wanted to watch the sheeves too see if they moved at all and they did upon tightning the bolt !?!?!?!?

HMMMM?????

50035 - Belt Deflection Adjuster $19.95

No more shims to buy, simply screw in or out for desired belt tension and tighten clutch bolt up.

LOL

The clutch did exactly what it was supposed to do.
If you read your manual, what you did is the procedure for changing the belt.

So think reverse of what you did... The more shims you add, the less the sheeves will open when you tighten the bolt down.
I don't beleive you have a problem... I beleive you don't understand what is going on.
Probably the easiest way to do it is put the collar, o-ring, all the washers you have on, tighten the bolt and put the belt on... It should be too tight as far as the deflection spec... Start removing washers until the deflection is correct.

clutches

Yes I dont know the workings of the diamond drive , and am tryin to figure it all out :)

ok I put no shims in the clutch and put it back together and looks like there is 1 1/2 diflection or so and works just fine with no shims BUT,.......

enguagment is a bit high, it is around 4000-4200 rpm
my set-up is ;

secondary is a 40/44 helix with a color white spring with 0648-693 written on it no other markings

primary is Yellow/White with I think 73.0 gram weights( I wont know for sure till I get a clutch puller)

Question being what do I need to do to change engaugment or is it right on the money where it is ?? I was thinking it should be around 3200 rpm or so ??

mostely ride between, 4500 and 8000 feet elevation , and it just seems a bit sluggish , where it is now :)
any help would be greatly appreciated :):beer;:beer;

seems weird that you have close to correct deflection with no washers?
Anyway, I beleive the spec is 1 1/8 - 1 1/4. Using a straightedge on top of the belt.
You may want to add a thin washer to tighten it slightly.
I prefer to run mine tight(er) to where it won't quite squeel or creep forward while idling.

I am not sure what engagement should be on an m8, but 4-4200 sounds fine to me.
If you want to change engagement you will need to change the spring in the primary.

Being sluggish could be due to too much belt deflection.
