running boards

hey man, I am a newbie to the sled world so if I have this wrong sorry, I am assuming the running boards are what you stand on, they attatch to the tunnel?? if so Mine are cracked on the rail of the edge and need replacing is this right?? I have a 144 track on a 04 mountain cat 600
