Arctic Cat Catalyst 858

^this. Their 4 stroke Thundercat was listed as 180hp class for years and dyno's were showing 200hp out of the box

Lmao! Imagine that, lol, and bikemans dyno reads high for YouTube ratings.

That’s David McClure so it’s got to be the 858 all hopped up iam sure. The 600 has an unfortunate exhaust note. That one there sounds much different. I only say that because I don’t like loud high pitched exhaust notes and iam trying to get used to mine (kinda don’t like it but love my 800’s)
According to the latest SnoWest podcast Dave has had a ctec 800 swapped into his sled.

I had heard through the grapevine last fall that those close enough to see the pre-production 858 on a dyno was putting out more than the production 9R. Hopefully the production 858 lives up to the rumor.
the difference is the 9r meets emission's. the 858 is a long way from meeting that in current form

How long until poo releases their stop ride emissions technology for cat to implement for compliance?

that's interesting. i've actually heard they were pleasantly surprised how clean it was when they first started testing the 858. it was much cleaner than the current 800.

I think bb900 might be talking out of his butt lol. Also the 9R eats and fouls spark plugs and detonates/pre-ignites like crazy, seems like there are lots of lemons out there. The only sled Polaris seems to have tuned 100% right now is the 850 NA. People are still having problems with the boost being a lemon too. Polaris needs to dial in their tuning then sell to people.

Not sticking up for polaris but mine has been awesome.

Again, more guessing! How could you possibly know?
sorry but that's the reason it wasn't released this year. if the good old suzuk could have been cleaned up we would still have one of the best 800 ever made. the 9r isn't prefect and i wouldn't buy one but again it meets emissions, and for you that don't understand that no one can help that.

Very impressive if it's apples-to-apples. I'd think they'd be working with engines tuned to meet emission unless it was very early on in prototyping, but the emission question is a fair one. It wouldn't be a total shock if the 858 matched or beat the 9R in peak HP: I hear the 9R can't really pull away from an 850, the advantage is more torque and quicker revving. I don't think Cat really needs to win races or be the smoothest or easiest on gas and oil - just gotta be in the ballpark on HP and reasonably durable and reliable.

It'll be interesting to see how well Cat can do in terms of quality with the 858. They're facing the same issues in terms of suppliers and costs as Polaris, so I'm not expecting miracles. Hopefully their assembly is more consistent, and they can keep the half-baked ideas from hitting production. Just a little more money spent on better components (and things like rail caps...) and better QC would at least make the NA Poo 850 one of the most reliable sleds. And some are pretty good. On the other hand, I saw an 850 apart recently that ate a piston in a couple hundred miles; apparently right off the bat it was stupid tight (took both hands to pull over and start), and Polaris didn't want to stand behind it. I know hitting the right price point is crucial, but I hope Cat builds a good one, even if it costs a little more.
