Apex Steering???

Needing to know what is the best fix for the steering. i thought I could live with it loose and slopy but that just won't fly.

So do I got with OEM parts or is there a stronger way to go????

Seems as if the joints may have gone bad..

I think thats how the steering is:confused: I thought mine seemed a little sloppy comparing to my buddies who just picked his up from CR Racing. Literally after one hour ride time his was the same as mine. I would assume your talking about the inch or two of freeplay (left-right) in the bars?

If you have an inch or two of play you have something wrong  mind has almost 1000 miles and has just a slight wiggle. I know there is some plastic bushings in there that wear out or can even break. I remember a fix over on totally Yamaha that someone showed how to put a greaseable bushing in there that helped but i cant find the post.

I don't think there is much you can do to fix it. I know wild child makes a set of greasable bushings. I bought a set from him but was unable to use them with my CR Racing steering stem since it is built a little different than the stocker. I gave them to M5 and he has them on his turbo. I'm not sure what his verdict is though. You might just have to live with it, LOL.

Arctic Crap's are the same they are chit from the factory.

Summitboy , i use wild child bushings with a CR streering post , you just needed to mod the post alittle , and yes the bushings are better .

Double check the a-arms. The bushings in them could be some of the problem. I have 3000 miles on my new-to-me Apex and the stock bushings were shot and some completely gone. Ulmer Racing makes metal replacement bushings that work extremely well. Way better than the plastic/nylon ones from Yamaha.
The steering post bushings can be tightened up a bit by taking a file to the the mating area where the bolt goes through. It doesn't take much. If you take to much it tightens down on the steering post or connecting rod and makes it extremely tough to turn. The previous owner of my sled had new ones installed and gave me the old ones. He said it didn't improve the slop much at all. I took the old ones and did the file trick and it seemed to work quite well. Then I found the slop in the a-arms. Hope this all makes sense. If not, let me know.

Summit boy you needed a wildchild post :face-icon-small-win

My dealer replace a bunch of the Nylon bushings in the steering because I had a bunch of freeplay like about an inch. Now its tight as a drum and handles noticeably better on the trail. I think Ulmer has oilite bushings that are supposed to be far superior to the stock units.

Glad to know i have options hear, So it sound as if i need to get me some wildchild post and bushings.
