APEX ?'s

I am wanting to buy an Apex but like anybody am worried about the weight. I ride a M6 now with a 153". Do you apex riders like your sleds? and suggestions on what to buy? let me know about the weight and what you guys think:D

I went from an M8 153" to a stock Nytro and now to a T-Apex. Yes the Apex is heavy in stock form or turbo'd but it is REALLY well balanced and I really didn't notice the extra weight with either the Nytro or the Apex.

On the really deep days I wouldn't want anything but the Apex because they float extremely well. They are a little awkward on hard pack sidehills but everything is to a certain degree. I had one of the best rides in my life on the Apex last year playing in the tight trees when it was socked in.

I am extremely happy with making the switch from Cat to Yamaha. I don't think you'll be disappointed............and the sound of the engine is addicting (especially when it starts to whistle:D):beer;

My hubby rides an Apex and I ride the Nytro - both stock sleds.

I agree with Prairie Dog ~ quote: "On the really deep days I wouldn't want anything but the Apex because they float extremely well."

They are an amazing sled when it comes to playing, carving in the pow! I think I even like the Apex better than my Nytro in the pow as they are such a smooth ride, it's like it glides in the pow. They are a hard sled to get stuck too. Just feathering the throttle and you pull right out of any situation where you think you might be getting stuck.

But as far as my Nytro goes, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Nytro - it's more maneuverable in the trees than the Apex, but thats just my opinion.

I'd buy an M8 or something but that's just me...Apex's are too heavy..especially when boondocking

Chances are you haven't spent much time boondocking with an Apex. A great balanced, linear responsive sled that is underpowered for it's weight. Never had an issue with it boondocking. Make sure that it is clutched and set up for you and your riding style. Tons of lightweight options available, but for serious mountain riding, boost is almost a necessity with the Apex. M8 might prove to be one of the best stockers around. Both sleds are great, I would proudly own and ride either one, but I would definitely boost an Apex. Why? In stock form the HP to weight is lacking. Even doing a lot of lightweight upgrades (close to 100 lbs) with stock HP is not close to stock sled with boost. Currently on my second Apex.

??????????

This has been beat to death how many times and what do ya mean?"do apex owners like their sleds" NO ****! If you want a light sled dont buy a Apex, their heavy.If your not a good rider and want a sled under 500 pounds its the wrong sled for ya. You will just piss off your friends when your stuck. Which will lead to no friends to ride with and definitely no ride to the mountain. No offense im not knocking your ridding abilities, i dont know ya and could really care less if you got one or the other.Hell your going from one extreme to the next lol.M6.....Apex. You can shed some weight with a seat,drop brackets ect.. but its like pouring perfume on a pig. Its still heavy but it dont matter.If your not worried about any of this and want to eat your friends like sunday brunch, get a apex and buy a turbo and dont look back. 300+ hp makes one bad a ss machine. "you want a scooter or a hog"? Guy on the hog gets the chicks! this could also be a asset.:beer;

I ride an Apex and agree with the comments above. The sled wont get the highest mark on the hill in stock form on most days but you dont have to tinker with it like some of the others. They do float really well in the powder, you just have to feather the throttle a bit to get them up on the snow. I did have some trouble with it trying to get it through the trees some days but I would chock that up to rider inexperience more than anything else. I watched one of my buddies on it and he can wrap tighter donuts on it than his rev. All in all its a good sled that leaves alot on the table for huge Hp and lightweight mods.:D

If you are looking for a good deal on a clean used Apex, check out the one that khk has in the swap meet.

It was a happy day when i pulled my 06 apex out of the trailer...:pUntil i hit the snow nice sled cool to listen to and look at :Dafter 3 MM 700's the apex ruined me so i Turboed it (you need $20,000 to do it rite.) then the motor blew broken oil line..:mad: I fixed it and the happiest day was when i sold it and bought a Rev and just rode a lite sled and had fun again...the turbo was nice just way to heavy.Not a hard sled to ride just 150lbs to heavy.Go for the M-8 really like mine 3 rides so far:D glad to back on a lite 2 stroke.
Just my .02 been there:rolleyes:

thistledoo had a stock apex. I bet he could out boondock 99% of the guys on a lightweight 2 stroke on this forum with that sled(I'm talking about deeeeeep pow days). I don't know why guys keep posting this. "worried about the weight" he!! yeah it's a heavy sled. look at the numbers. If you know how to ride it's an amazing sled. won't highmark other sleds unless it's hard pack. Yes, I had 4 apex's, and rode all but 1 stock for a few weeks any ways. Had lots of fun on them.

The $20,000.00 that Logman gives for the Turbo is probably if you go the whole works with the Turbo and all the lightweight parts. Not neccessary for starting out. I did mine for about $8000.00 installed by Outlaw, that included a Boss seat. It's a great sled for many reasons: No two-stroke smell or mixing oil, very comfortable, feels light when you're riding, (is heavy when it's stuck (what large displacement sled isn't?), dead on reliable(even with a blown head-gasket which was from towing a dead ski-don't out of a canyon it got me home), smile inducing sound and power, good looking, tons of potential for building it to the extreme. Bought one once, would I do it again....Hell Yeah! JMHO:):beer;:beer;:)

I thought mine was awsome when I rode it stock.For me I just wished I had a riser that day.I climbed side by side with M7's RMK 900 and 800 Revs.It was a nice powder day too.

Going to the Apex from a Mountain Cat was a breeze!! It seems so far any way!! After all i am going from a bathtub to a tank!! If your an experienced rider i dont think it will matter as much as you think!! If Im wrong I'll let you guys know!! Heres to finding out this year!!

he probably means 20k for the sled and turbo

Hell if you have the money to turbo it, GO FOR IT!!! The 300+ horsepower, it's a kick to ride, just not so much in the tree's. If you're going to keep the sled stock i'd just assume you not going to the apex... You're not going to keep up with the turbo and supercharged apex's...IMO you have to turbo/supercharge them to run decent.

I have both stock Apex and M7..

The Apex is NO M7.. It is not a flickable machine, It needs to be horsed around and on the hills you feel gravity the whole time.... It likes to point down hill..when it gets stuck... (you may lose friends and couple of times I was gonna dig to japan and shove it up their collective asses) Need to learn when to turn out on this sled, cant wait till the last oomph like the M.. on this sled I am wore out at the end of the day vs the M7.....

Now for the good stuff, great fuel milage, great starting, realiable, Cant beat the ride ... especially going back to the truck on whooped out trails... (like a big soft couch). motor pulls strong.... and will Float on settled snow...not bottomless. I does roll nice in powder..

I bought it, to turbo and wasnt so sure on keepin it after last year, but current sled prices are down and I am not takin the hit this year.
I am gonna give a few things a try with it, camo extreme 2.5, 2 wheel kit, remove some weight, boggies, rear rack, seat, light battery ect.
