Apex or Nytro?

OK long and the short of it is my Vector is going to cost too much to put back together.

I have the choice of either a APEX turbo, or Nytro Turbo

Nytro is a bit ruff, but with some TLC will be good, runs on pump gas

Apex is a little older and cheaper. nice shape, but need at least 50/50 race fuel.

I am looking for boondocking opinions. I know they will both climb to places that I am going to be getting "big eyes" coming down from. And lakes are for guys east of Alberta.

I am not a big guy, 6' 200lbs with gear and pack. Love to play in the trees.

Had an XP, hated the handling

Have a Phizzer, handles ok, but they tend to flop on their sides

Have a Dragon, love it, but am left wanting more

I ride the interior of BC, Kelowna to Revy sort of areas.

For guys who have had both, which would you choose and why?

The Nytro is a boondocking machine. I have an MCX Nytro on pump gas, runs 15 psi at 11,000 ft and runs awesome. Does great in the trees. Have only spent a little time on an Apex but from what I hear it is a better point and shoot sled. Can't go wrong with the Nytro.

some people love the nytros and some have trouble handling them. never hear anyone saying bad about the apex, its always been a good sled, just a little heavy.
go for the nytro, u should test it first tho.

I have a Nytro MTX -09 with MCX turbo, love the machine but!! You have to change drive belt every 300km!! Nytro eats belt, every one of them!!
Apex just run and run, no belt issue, great in the snow and a fantastic climber.

I have decided to trade my Nytro to Apex -09.

I've not heard of many at all that have had belt problems. I'm still on the original belt and it looks like new. Not sure what your talking about???

2 nytros with same turbo kit, and same clutching. one was good and other was eating 3 in a day. had alignments done, parts changed. buddy spent $1000 in clutch work to get it to work now.

1400km on my belt last year. Looks decent but sitting lower in the secondary then I would like. Will toss on a new belt next season just because.

I would agree the nytro feels very similar to a Rev and thats why I like it. The apex feels like a tank to me because it has a completely different riding style. Ride what you like.

If you find the "phizzer" acceptable, you will enjoy the nytro. it shares handling characteristics, but is a bit more stable than the phizzer.

apex vs nytro is apples vs oranges. different platforms, different sleds.

as always, it boils down to personal preference. I enjoy both sleds, but the nytro suits my riding style more gooder.

a well set-up nytro will ride circles around a mediocre set up apex all day long. Power for power, the ape has it hands down.

It is all about what fits you. take what you learn here, throw it out the window, and test ride both without predjudice - you'll know what you need right away! It's yer sled - buy what is best for you! ;)

then buy parts from me to make it better....:D

Here in Sweden we have drive belt problems, big problems!!
Every one have done alignments but still!!
Every one have done clutch work, tried different clutching and gearing but still blowing belt!!
Maybe we have different driving style here in Sweden, we drive long runs in deep snow, 30-60km without stop.
The clutch get very hot and then the belt looks like ****!

Sorry to hear that. Here in the States the '08 Doo XP's were the ones really eating belts. I have been lucky with my XP, almost a thousand miles and no problems. The Nytro has been good as well, even with the turbo I've had no problems.

Boondocking you say? It will depend on what you call boondocking. Every one has there own opinion. For some boondocking is open parked out areas such as revys boulder area. or north idahos roman nose or pack river where a huge fire took most of the timber. Or at the opposite side of things here in Troy town it's tight trees with dispersed open areas. The first two you would most likely be happy enough with your 4 , here though you would have fun you willl work your butt off for it. So you see you need to be realistic to where you will spend most of your time. Sounds like used is what your looking for and man is it a buyers market on sleds any sled. there are some great deals on apexes out there for well under 10,000 .So shop around. And make some offers on what you like.

I second that!! I ride a nytro, and had the opportunity to ride an apex this season, The nytro is alot easier to ride to and from playing, but that damn apex being a tank and its 16" wide track will float it to places the nytro can't think of (unless you open your wallet lol!!).

Also I found i liked the rider forward way better, the apex remindes me of my SRX

Thats good advice. I bought a apex I couldnt get comfortable on the nytro, but I have been riding the m chassis so the apex was an easier transition for me definitley test them both.

nytro or apex

I rode a Polaris IQ (900) before jump'n upon my T-apex and have not looked back

I finally got on a stock Nytro (2008) , I liked it except for the cornering aspects , I personnally felt like I was trying to ride a 55 gallon drum into a corner , it just didnt work for me, great low end power for a stocker !!

I love my Apex!!, but it is a bit heavy
I like the manners of the Apex on and off the trail it is predictable
its not just a point and shoot machine like so many guys say it is, it just takes a little finess to throw that big of a machine around in the trees and such

Venting.

If it's a heat issue...I would think clutching, gearing, and alignment wouldn't be the solution. Getting more air flow past the clutches would be a good solution.

I'm running 300+ hp....same belt for two years. My friend has a new 500cc sled that puts out 80hp and has blown a belt already. Poor design, clutches overheat....belts fail. He bought a vent kit to solve the problem...

I also have xxxmodrods Nytro vent kit, did´t help at all!!!

If you put 16´track and a bigger tank on Nytro, then it has the same weight as Apex I suppose!!??
