Apex mtn, is it really a mountain sled?

i'm looking at an 07 apex w/ 162" for 10% trail and 90% boondocking. will it do as well as my 07 polaris 700 155"? it does not currently have reverse, so i'm not sure i really want to mess with something that heavy on loading/unloading and the occasional trench to pull out of.

It will out do your 700. If weight is really that much of an issue don't look at yammy four strokes

i guess i should have said it differently. i can handle weight when riding but dead weight on the trailer or in the whole can put the hurt on my back. usually i just don't get stuck but when i do it's bad. and i suppose i could look for a drive on/off trailer. btw, what does a reverse cost to throw on one of these?

--thanks

My apex does not have reverse either. I can say that there are not many times I have ever thought that "reverse would be so nice right now". It pulls off of a sled deck alright, and most trailers a person drives out the front.

Reverse digs a deeper hole most of the time, would never use it on my Nytro if I was stuck. Just a little tip, always make sure you can drive straight out of a spot when you stop, parking lots, lodges, gas, etc....

yeah, when i used to guide the reverse button was a do not touch button for that reason and the tipping issue.

the last sled i operated w/o reverse was an old '98 700 rmk and i remember always worrying about how to drive it w/o needing reverse. that one was for work related use and reverse is a huge plus there.

Yeah honestly reverse is not a huge deal. I lost reverse on mine with extended chaincase and I hardly ever wish I had it. Honestly just unloading it was only time. Now I have a drive on/off trailer and its fine.

thanks for the replies.

i looked at an apex tonight and noticed the oil was thin and milky. is this typical of yamalube 0w-40? it reminded me of old chain case oil after it was mixed with water but thinner.

oil shouldn't be milky, should look like it was taken out of the quart, light golden if it is synthetic, and a little darker if it is the standard. NO milky

that's why i walked away. i wasn't sure what yamalube looked like but every other normal oil i've seen didn't look like that. it also looked a little too full for my liking, though it was on a trailer and possibly not dead level.

If its milky its got water in it. Possible Cracked head, cylinder or head gasket. So yah probably better to pass on that one with out having it looked at first.

Could pressurize the coolant system if the deal on the sled was good enough and you wanted to take the time. Oil will get milky if the machine is ran without letting it get through its warm up cycle as well, started and stopped a lot, or like phil said cracked something. moisture or coolant would be the answer to that one.

But yes turbo it and smile!
