Apex Mod?

What i wonder is, do you want it as light as possible or do you want to make it all around better?
My choise is make it better, then the first thing i would do is change the track to an Challenger Extreme, 162 or 174" depending of use of the sled, then do the runningboards better, preferbly by installing BetterBoards and remove the coolers and install an u-cooler, then i would change seat, better and lighter, install a lw battery and preferbly move it to under the seat or above the footrest.

After this i would consider turbo, definitively.

If you want to proceed, sure you can change skid to an lighter, but better? Especially w.o. turbo, with turbo yes, but i doubt it w.o.
Sure you can change tunnel, lighter and better yes, but expensive.
I like Simmons Gen2, but others hate them, they are superb in real powder, but not as much on harder snow.
 
would a lighter/better skid help any?
Im asking because i am planning on buying a wrecked 2006 apex. yes it is rideable all it is is broken plastic and a bent tunnel. i was thinking a timbersled skid but if it doesnt help at all stock then i want some other ideas.

Best thing I did was put on the Challenger extreme 2.5". These sleds have alot of power in stock form but the Maverick doesn't get the power to the snow like the Extreme. I also put on a set of Simmons GenII skiis and they are awesome too. With those skiis you can really float around in the deep stuff and then pin it and get up a hill without the frontend sinking.
 
is the mav. really that bad compared to a camo extreme?
i guess every sled i have ridden has had a mav on it so i wouldnt really know.
i guess i should probably say how i plan on riding it. im hoping to start more drops/jumps, bigger climbs, tree, powder riding, and probably some flat land stuff IF we get enough snow (rarely do). i know fox floats front and rear will help with bottoming out but do they do anything else besides that? this will be my first personal sled since i have been spoiled by my dad being a part owner of a yamaha dealership but decided to buy my own sled and ride as hard as i want.
any and all help is great. thanks for the ideas and keep them coming!
 
i run floats for the weight loss. personally if i had the cash i would run some really nice dual rate spring piggyback coilovers like ohlins or elka. and yes the mav is that bad. CE track is nite and day difference.
 
A timbersled skid and front makes a HUGE difference even on a non turbo Apex. Also the CE is a must have item. If I would get me a Apex I would put timbersled front, rear, and CE track. Probably move the battery to the footwell.

I'd enter this mod in the "best thing you do to a stocker" contest!

The blue sled in this photo started out life with a Timber Sled suspension (front and back). It was a nice sled and the owner really enjoyed it that way for mtn free riding. Since it got a turbo it's an entirely new level of fun! All reports from hundreds of our Apex customers says the Better Boards are a monster improvement.

In my earlier post i wouldn't suggested BetterBoards as a "must" if i didn't have them already, added them a year ago to mine, it did a great improvement, but for me it was not quite enough, the coolers took to much space so the holes got to small, and snow melted and froze so now the coolers are removed, now i have big nice holes where snow can pass.
