hey guys putting on a 162 camo extreme on my apex next week and was wondering about gearing to the 19t, i see alot have done but is it necesarry or is it a huge improvement? will it over rev easy and thus i must throw in some new weights? at 3500 feet i already have the heaviest weights from yamaha to keep it from over revving then i got mtn weights to match the sled right now, wat does everyone think? go for the 19t i'm not sure as to how much difference this will make will i drastically need bigger weights? what about the shockwave helix, i don;t know that much about clutching except for primay springs and weights, know almost nothing on the secondary.

I run 18/43, w-p-w primary spring, (b-w-b is more violent but I like low enguage for boondocking)shockwave set at 48 deg, supertip weights. You will love the 19, and the supertip weights are needed 4 sure, give dustin at Outlaw a call he will set u up. My sled still can run 84 flat out and really has the "snap" now. I ride 2-3 times a week and have tried a huge # of combos........:D IMHO

Oh, yes the gear difference is really nice, hit throttle, skis come up.......nice

great advice

Good advice, I have an Outlaw Motorsports set up in my sled and can't say enough! Similar to the above but with the stock piece of crap track that's been screwed and it has all kinds of poop!

looks good but i don't have enough cash for the super tips since i'm flat out broke from new drivers and this new track. kickin myself for not ordering a couple weeks ago when the dollar was better and i coulda saved myself a cpl hundred bucks.

can't rember off the top of my head what i have for mountain setup i just change my spring and weights, the secondary has never been touched. i'll go look at it later, what can i do to tweak my stock/current setup?

loosen off your secondary 10 degrees if your just wanting a quick fix on the over reving problem. but that will pull your rpm down when your climing. its not hard to do, worth a try.

I would say its NOT a huge improvement, you will see some better belt life it you do it. As for top speed, I think its only about 4 mph loss from a 20 tooth.

what is your clutch set up right now, wieghts rollers, helix and springs, the heavest wieght from yamaha is not the best wieght for your sled, a lighter wieght with more aggressive profile and 14.5 rollers will pull harder and lower rpm. yamaha is not like polaris you don,t just put heavier wieghts in you have to match wieght profile and roller size, with the right helix angle, thats why yamaha clutches work better when set up properly there is alot more adjustability, and loosening the secondary is not the way to lower rpms, gearing down is a good improvement.

after we clutchted it last year it pulled like never before. sled does not hit rev limiter at all even with the mtn weights it didn;t over rev at 4000ft i will hopefully look tommorrow. once we dropped the 100lbs from the sled we had to use the heaviest weights to or else it over revved, stock suspension set at full stiffness would not keep skis on the ground. i will try to get some more details on clutch specs. rollers and such are stock we jsut got different spring and weights. end of next week the track should be in and i guess i should see how it works and just go from there.

:D:face-icon-small-coo:I run a Hi-tech adjustable 911 response primary cover 0.10" to 0.20" belt clearance. FBP heavy hitter weights. Or-Pk-Or spring,14.5 rollers. Paragon secondary,56C helix. Gearing is 20-46 in an Avid chaincase with Avid drivers. 174x2.5 camo extreme. We ride a lot of tight treed areas to access bowls and ridges. Our snow is dense and heavy in riding elevations 3500 to 7200 ft. This setup comes in at 2500 with a nice linear pull to 10,500 rpm. Sled tractors well and maintains 76mph trail speed,(fast enuf for that much track).

How do you like the paragon?? I have the 911, nice piece and am thinking about trying the clutch. We run about the same gear (18/43)

Hey one more thing, I run the simmons gen2 also, cut the outer edge off from the spindel back, Amazing difference in turning and feel, one of the best mods I did. Ordered the slps for my wifes dragon from carls and loved them, figured what the heck and wacked the simmons, cut it with bandsaw right to the outer keel...all I can say is works great. Oh, after you are done cutting i sanded it smooth and hit it with a torch to get the smooth shine back.:D:D

Make it look like this

:)I really like the paragon. The shifting is fully automatic. When climbing backshifting is so instant when I go back down and look at my line I never see the traditional snowspits from backshifts. Sled also stays on top better. On trail upshift is very smooth and mpg is up.

Jeff, how is it tuned? Springs ? does it have various helix angles? Or is it kind of a bolt on and leave it? Sounds pretty neat. thanks:)

paragon secondary

:D 2xm3: When you call Duane Watts @ www.hitechperformance.com and tell him the specs on your sled ie: elevation, s/c, turbo, track, he will set the paragon up for you. The paragon is a parallel shift clutch meaning the power hub and cam are seperate from inner and outer sheaves. As you probably know, all other secondaries have the cam or helix, attached to either the inner or outer sheave. This is why the Paragon is so ultra torque sensitive.

Any arctic cat secondary spring will work, altho high torsional and side loads are not necessary.

Hope you get a chance to try one of these.

am running 20t for 0-3000 feets, and its ok, but not good, 19T would be better. As for clutching, like SNOWY1 said, stock weight from yamaha are'nt good, they drop will climbing and overrev on hard. Try 8BU-00 with 14.5 or 15 mm roller, you will have about 20 gr less per ramp and pulling harder.
