Apex fuel problem

I am working on an apex for a friend which has had problems since day one after it was boosted. First it had a bad fuel controller. Outlaw replaced the controller with no problems. He took it home ,it ran ok but not great . So outlaw installed a MSD fuel pump and an auxillary fuel pressure regulator inline between the tank and the stock regulator. He rode it for a year but it never ran hard. Boondoocker came out with a new set of numbers for the fuel box which improve the performance 100 percent so this year he wanted to run up to 20lbs of boost, so I installed rods and pistons. I test rode the sled today and it ran great but the fuel pump loses its prime and air locks so i checked the tank for trash and made sure outlaw removed the stock fuel pump, and also made sure the check valve at the tank was ok . I am going to install a new MSD pump, but can anyone tell me if the sled needs the boost control auxillary fuel pressure regulator that outlaw installed on it. I'm trying to get rid of future problems. If any of you apex owners know of any tricks that help these sleds run i would appreciate the info. I am great at building engines for these things but I am not very good at tuning the sled as a whole.

alright how can the sled run great if you say your only fuel pump air locks and loses its prime, by you saying that does the sled actually die? if the pump loses its prime the sled will not start, you need fuel pressure to start it. tell tale signs of fuel pumps going bad are amperage increases causing blown fuses. i am not sure why you would take out the stock pump. what do you have in place? you could be running out of fuel depending on your pick up tube orientation in the tank. also the other regulator can stay but not needed, and the boondocker box is junk throw it in the garbage and get your self a pl or attitude. impulse apexes are running just an msd pump and stock injectors and no extra regulators and run strong 18+ lbs.

Thank you Spooled for the reply, already found the root cause of the fuel problems. Had an improper fuel pickup and a weak fuel pump. Auxillary fuel regulator is in the trash can. Headed to the hill to see if it blows or not. Again, thank you for the reply.
