anyone wrap their turbo header

Wrap

My midmount header and downpipe is wrapped lightly with exhaust heat tape, ran entire season, no issues, my headers not made of stainless exhaust pipe though. Tape is still in good condition too.

Wrap

My header was wrapped in my 1900 mile turbo and I had to reinstall and rewrapped it. After 1900 miles the header wrap came off in pieces so not sure how long it will last.
I wrapped all the exhaust to the turbo and out of it as well.
Keeps the temps down on the brake so it doesnt fade with the boondocker kit.

Ceramic coating does not work near as good as wrapping!!! ---- the insulating factor is almost 0 looks good though. But is a pain in the a-ss if you ever have to weld on it.
If you have the patience wrap it well and than fire-proofed it you dramaticaly reduce under hood temps and maintain a more constant header temp.
Less hot/cold spots for loner life.
2 seasons on my header no cracks and the wrap stays on well. The firer proofing compound seems to really hold it together.

What are you talking about ceramic coating works way better then wrapping. When you ceramic coat something you get the outside and inside coated, this will keep the thermal energy (what spools the turbo) inside the pipe and not be aborbed into the header walls, where as wrapping still allows the header to absorb some of the energy.

powder coating wouldn't insulate as well, but ceramic coating works quite well at keeping the heat inside the exhaust where you want it. people have been doing it to turbo exhaust sides, downpipes, exhausts, etc. for years with good results.

has anyone ever tried jet-hot coatings in their headers? i know they make some pretty high temp stuff...extreme sterling coating(1700 F) AND Jet Hot 2000 coating(2450F). Ive had the sterling coating on SB/BB headers, about a 300F drop in surface temp using infared thermometer. I bet this stuff would hold up to the heat...you could always coat and wrap, keep the heat in, and keep the outside cool. Just a thought.

Jet Hot is great for 2-strokers ... I'm really surprised that more Turbo guys are not getting their parts coated by SwainTech. I did White Lightning on my S/C exhaust and was SHOCKED at how it works at reducing the heat, insane! Costly ... somewhat, but the results are well worth it.

how costly ? its not like theres alot of matrial to cover , would it be cheeper if a few headers got done at once that way the oven would be full instead of just one little peice in there

Did the white lightning on a custom header for a n/a 4 cylinder sled, worked out really good and did as advertised, just don't touch it with dirty gloves!
