Anyone with Edge RMK 800 Aerocharger that could answer some questions?

I have a 03 edge RMK 800 159" track with what I think is Steve Packer's Aerocharger turbo setup on it. Haven't had very good luck with it so far but I am pretty sure its in my setup. It got a rebuilt indy dan motor and turbo doc turbo this year so I think the hardware is good.

I am wondering if any of you out there have the same setup or similar that could answer some basic questions, and add anything that you think I should know.

- what brand of race fuel do you run and what ratio to pump gas along with boost levels?
- what clutch weights, springs, and helix's do you run?
- what gearing do you run in the chaincase with track length?
- do you have something protecting engine parts from going through the turbo or is there such thing available?

what is the problem? I have an aero 53 on an edge 700 and runs strong. If you have ?'s check out performance modified, carbed turbo thread. Great peeps with all kinds of ideas and answers to most ? u have.

Mines not an aero but a mitsubishi turbo, 800 edge.

Fuel, Avgas/92pump 50/50 @8psi boost.

10-72 weights with cat 170/260 spring
custom ground 30/36 helix(button clutch) with SLP Yellow purple spring in third hole

19/43 gearing with 159 track. Going to throw in 21/41 here pretty soon.

Nothing protecting anything. Nothing really exists like that. Anything strong enough and small enough to actually catch the debris would be horribly restrictive.

If you have a good setup and stay on top of the tuning and maintence they are pretty problem free.

I've got an '02 700 Edge with a 53 Aero on it. Set up by Steve Packer (Turbo Doc) I've called Steve and asked him personally multiple questions about set up, etc. Very friendly and informative. He'll answer all your questions and sell you what you need at best price. That's where I would start IMO.

turbo doc

yea the turbo doc has answered all my questions but I still don't seem to get it working quite right, my main question is the race fuel to pump gas ratio and clutching gearing.

With the 800's you have to lower the compression also. At what elevation and what boost level? Or call me and I will answer your questions. (360)658-1288

yea steve packer told me to definately not lower the compression, to run the stock head, and mine came with a low compression head and i really couldn't get it to run with that head on it

I was running 8-9 lbs of boost on this thing at 8-10,000 ft. I was running straight c-12 race gas in it and I could get it to rip pretty good around town elevation which is 7500 or so, but then going up from there I just couldn't get the thing to run past 1/2 throttle. It would come on boost pretty well but would sputter past 1/2 throttle. I guess I was thinking that I was running to much race gas. I talked to the fuel specialist and he said that it was vaporizing the fuel and I wouldn't be able to probably get it right.

Its fat if it runs in town the runs worst as u go up in elevation. and there is nothing wrong with the fuel i'd say find a new fuel specialist. carbs are suppose to vaporize fuel thats there job.

If its a Packer kit it has to have power jets ........ have you tried turnin the power jets down, after you went up in elevation?

any idea where they are set right now?

I am running 370 main jets right now. I tried a couple different jets. Turbo Doc told me to run 370's.

The power jets started at 3/4 turn out and I played with them from there. the power jet on the turbo was 3/4 turn as well and changed from there.

I am pulling 1300's or more thru the mid range and then the thing falls off to 1080's when I got it running the best, but was stuttering still. I really can't lean it down much more.

The fuel guy from VP was talking about vapor pressures and running it straight, with high intake temps that I had, would cause it to seem like it rich up top. The intake temps (in the charge tube between turbo and air box) come up over 200 no problem when its on boost and that is when I start having the problems. That is why he said I would have to run less race gas and it would probably work better or else change fuels with lower (i think) vapor pressure.

what fuel pressure are u running?

what position are ur needles in?

did u leave the stock fuel pump on the sled also

how far closed did u go on the the carb power jets

how far closed did u go on the turbo power jet.

tried 3, 4, 5 psi idling pressure - set at 5 now turbo doc's rep
needles- have tried 1 2 3 4 positions- position 2 right now

didn't go much under 3/4 turn out on either power jet because the mid range is lean and just gets leaner when i turn either power jet in farther, espiecially the power jet in the turbo

does not have the stock fuel pump in it anymore, wasn't there when I got the sled

If it is a Turbo Doc kit, it should have a power jet on the turbo. I am running 1turn out on the turbo and 1/4 turn out on the carbs. I run at 10,000 feet and it runs strong on pump gas at 6 psi boost. I am still rich at these settings, but it's safe. Run the needle in the 2nd position 370 mains and dial in your power jets. The turbo power jet will tame the midrange and the carb power jets are to tune the wide open throttle.
