i was just wondering if any of you have broken your leg in seasons past and still ride today? is it harder to ride now or just as good as before ? the reason i was wondering is i broke mine this year sledding (hit a rock) AND really want to get back in the sadle next year but im worried that my leg wont take the beating any good input will be apreciated

not a broken leg but very close, recently i had both knees strained until nearly two weeks ago i tore my pcl in left knee . riding was fine, they never gave out untill stupid happened. i can walk again and waiting until my knee brace shows up this week so i can go back out and ride.

I broke my right femur into 3 pieces. I know how you are feeling right now. Dont worry about it. Because you want too, you will be riding next year for sure!

not a problem, you'll be running before you know it. I'm running on a hip thats been dislocated, but it is deteriorating. also a spiral fractured femur, they had to pull the rod out a year ago. and i also do not have an acl.

Riding has never been an issue, can still run a marathon, but it does bother if i am walking on concrete all day.

oh yea, the broken leg will shrink, so get used to getting shoes adjusted. any of the accidents have happened in the spring and I was back riding that winter.

twice

In 2004 I shattered below my left knee into about 40 pieces, 2 metals plates and nine pins later I was back to riding the next season. A few aches from over use, but it never slowed me down from the things I want to doo. We'll see what happens next season, in January I broke my right femur in 4 places. I'm now sporting a 14 inch titanium rod and 2 new screws. I have every intention of dooing everything I did before and then some. Once the doctor releases you to exercise - doo it, you will have to strengthen yourself again if you want to be able to perform as before. I'm chomping at the bit waiting for him to say ok - walk, but I also know if I don't listen, I won't get to play later. Good luck!:o

I broke my fibula just above the ankle just before xmas and I started riding after 7 weeks, I should have waited 10 or 11 but I couldn't stay home anymore. I feel it getting better every week, but I'm not trying to be too stupid about it. I still have a slight limp, and it gets sore if I'm on it all day. I'm still not jumping or pulling any hard carves on my right side yet, just getting out and having fun. I should be 100% by the time the snow melts.

leg

broke mine in mid august, was ridin by late nov... a good stiff boot like an HMK pro absorbs alot of the stress, I also have to do regular rehab to keep it loose, so I bicycle everyday which keeps everything working smoothly.

Just stay off it let it heal up and take extra calcium pills, don't smoke and you should be fine.I don't even notice my broken leg from back in 2001.A good massage of the muscles ever other week after the cast comes off helps wonders also.

Broke my leg on a dirtbike when I was a kid. As soon as I got the walking cast on first thing I did is jump back on the same bike that broke my leg and never had any problems. Went through 2 more casts because they wouldn't stay together riding through mud and crap. If it's a simple break you have nothing to worry about. Had a buddy break his leg on asled at the begining of the season in november once and he was back riding by end of febuary.

I broke my left leg in 4 places in a head-on collision with a Tree snowmobiling in Wisconsin. Broke my femur in half and above and below my knee and my fibula. That happened early January of 92. I was trail riding with my immobliizer on about 1 month later. I actually used a walker to get to my sled in the garage. I rode another 1000 miles that winter. It was slow going to get back up to speed, but there are times (even with the steel rod still in my femur) that I forget which leg it was.

Only real issue I have is all that time spent immobilized, my knee never has fully regained its flexibility. I only notice it walking in DEEP snow or if severe sideways action is applied.

I rode the whole next year and never missed a beat, but it took over 1 year to regain the strength. Make sure that you do whatever excercises that they suggest. Flexibility was key for me.

Knock on wood, I've been lucky and broken nothing but my pride! You coming up tomorrow Skibreeze? Just a few weeks left!

what he said

that is the issue i still have 17 years later after desintegrating a knee. but exercise and "aleve" worked for me

Broken Bones!

In my oppinion, bones are better to break, than damage to any soft tissue. It always seems that knee, tendon, ligament, nerves, and muscle damage take longer to heal. Good luck on the recovery!-00's I wanted to show a pic of my injury but had to find some, then scan them. You know, well this is a right tib/fib fracture with compartment syndrome. I almost lost my leg! I hope this helps you get back in shape. I ride all day nothing bothers me except a callaous I get on my foot, it is now on kinda crooked, so I walk on the outside of it. The first pic is after my first of 7 total surgeries, the second is after a month or so, the third is almost five years after. Pretty ugly huh, I am so thankful to still have it, even if it looks like this!

compound tib fib fracture

I broke my leg 2 years ago while sledding, (foot was pointed backwards, coulda kicked myself in the ***!) still have the steel rod and screws and plates in there. It bothers me if I ride too long, or if the vibrations gets to it just right, but I am out riding every chance I get. I don't ride as long each day as I used to, but I still enjoy getting out.

Good luck with yours.

i agree, had a compound tib/fib fracture on one leg and a severe dislocation on the other ankle at the same time. rod/screws in broken leg still there and was back up on that leg within a few weeks and it never bothers me, even fell off a roof since and didn' hurt. :o my ankle never regained all of its flexibility and is in almost constant pain, and swells up after work every day. happened 7 years ago. don't notice either at all when riding though

get back in the saddle as soon as you can!

thanks for all the info its good to hear there are a few others out there with the same problem and that i should be able to ride its hard enuf to be out one season of riden let alone thinking for life, it keeps my spirits up. thanks again for the input,

I broke my femur sledding and after some titanium reinforcement and a couple of screws I was riding in two months. The next season I was good as new although it bothers me during drastic weather changes, something to do with barometric pressure.

Broke rt. Tiba and Fibula, split it up the center something awful tearing all the soft tissues that join the bones. 9 Screws, 1 plate, and three operations later, I don't notice a thing. But I did extensive physical theraphy and took it very seriously, following my therapist advice to a T. Walking again was a ***** at first, I really think the underwater treadmill theraphy is what really brought me back. Take it easy, but get on a good PT program and exercise it to keep scar tissue from building.

I broke 4 bones in my foot/ankle and my fibula February 6th of this season.Had 2 immobilizer pins, 8 screws and a plate put in my foot,I feel your pain:face-icon-small-fro.It will get better and we will both ride again:face-icon-small-hap,(I'm hoping for at least a trail ride this spring).Just got my cast off yesterday and had the pins removed.Got a walking boot and start PT next week.Listen to your PT person and you'll be riding good next fall
Good Luck Pete

thats one thing i got a great dr that knows i need to be up and going for farming this spring and a pt that is always pushing me telling me oh you can bend and move a litte farther every day and i can see some improvement. my knee froze up from not movening it so last monday they broke it loose again took two dr prying on it to get it to loosen up so now i am kinda back at square one cant lift my leg and stuff and they got me in this contraption that i lay down on a bed and strap my leg in it and it bends my leg for me and the dr said do it six hours a day well i do do that and i sleep with it on and so i am in it about 15 or so hours a day to keep it loosened up i want to be back out there but i wont be sledding this year no more snow but i want to be strong for next year. someone said not to smoke when i have a broken bone i dont but was wondering what that had to do with anything never hurd that before?
