I was wondering if someone tried a different Helix than stock (50/40) and a different stock spring (Green 180-303 lbs) on their 800HO Secondary
I made some researches and that is totally a trail setup. That's what you'll find on an MxZ and GTX 800HO ski-doo sleds... And again, AD Boivin made most of their developpment for trail and they don't have as much snow as here and they're defenitely not as high in Quebec... So I'm really questionning their choice here for mountain/deep snow/high elevation use.
So I was guessing that the '06 Summit 800HO 136" was kind of my best reference point for my 144", considering the square footage of the track touching the snow and the load it would put on the motor. I'm refering to the '06 models because Ski-doo had the 800R motor in '07 in Summits for the 1st year. That sled has a purple secondary spring (231-303lbs), I've been told by a ski-doo mtn tuner from Revy that this stiffer spring should allow for quicker backshift apparently, so less hesitation and better throttle response/more constant RPM in deep snow. Purple spring is the same on all '06 Summit. An absolute must apparently according to him. As for the Helix, that controls the "speed" or rate of shifting and straight 44 degree seem to be the Helix for pretty much all the 800HO summit in '06 except the 162. . I figure our narrower track is still easier to spin (so easier to upshift as well maybe...) than a 15" by 136" so it should allow for a little steeper Helix like straight 46 insead of a 44. Or maybe a combo degree helix like 46-42 or 48-44 I don't know...
And another thing to look for of course is final gearing... MTN have 28-56, Enduro 30-56 and '07 TopGun & '08 Trail 32-56. MTN do have the same ratio as these summit so one less thing to question...
Honestly, I don't know much about secondary clutching, as I only change the setup in my primary last year... I know though how a TRA primary work as I tried every setup change one at a time last year. Secondary, just took it off the shaft for the first time last weekend to replace my china bearings.
I am looking forward to put the spring first, see what it does and maybe try a Helix... what pisses me off with that is they're worth more than 120$ each and I don't know exactly if it'll be better or not.
Any comments or experiences you have and want to share would be appreciated for sure ! Thanks.
