Not much to do since I ruptured my achilles tendon 2 weeks ago, I spend a lot of time on here.(even more than before!)

Anyways.

How old?
How'd ya do it?
Surgically repaired?
How long before you were walking without crutch assistance?
How long before you were back to full strength?
Any long term problems?

I'm a nurse, and have done all the reseaerch on it, but just curious to personal experiences. I'd love to get out this year still and do some big climbs(thinking maybe in April), but don't want to re-rupture it).

Most literature says about 50% strength at 6 months, and 8-9 months for complete recovery. Did find one site that said 3 months, but that seems a little optimisitc?

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

depending on how bad you ruptured it! complete tears usually require surgery, and will take a long time to completely heal. i would also look into deep tissue massage or anyone that can do active release to help break up scar tissue. this will give you greater mobility and overall a stronger tendon

Sorry, it was a complete rupture and I had surgery on 1/24/10 to repair it. In a cast boot. All my research was for a complete rupture.

then you are definitely gonna want to get deep tissue work or active release done. this helps to reduce scar tissue and allow the tendon/ligament/muscle to move and behave in a more normal fashion. scar tissue decreases the tendon's ability to stretch and can be a supplmental cause of future ruptures!

When I was 29 I snapped mine playing softball. I was 12 weeks on crutches and then 3 weeks in a walking cast. I rode 6 months later but not much strength. I do recommend working out the thigh muscle though cuz it will go away quickly.
