Anyone remember the last winter like this?

I haven't been sledding long, but man the winters seem to be getting worse. Anyone been a long time sledder in this area and remember the last time it was this bad? Or has it ever been this bad? Curious to know.

Winter comes late

1976 and 2004 come to mind. Happens!

I can't say I've been sledding long but I've been snowboarding around here for most of 25 years. 2004/2005 was the last winter that was comparable to this one but the old timers talk about the winter of 1976 as being very bad too.

There's lots of weather discussion over on TAY and it sounds like analysis of the numbers as long as we've been keeping data doesn't really support a greatly decreasing snowpack but it shows that there have been a few very strong outlying winters both good and bad. This happens to be one of the bad ones. :(

2004/2005 was the winter that I got really into mountain biking and rode my bike more than my snowboard. I just bought my first sled this year and think I probably should have bought another mountain bike or maybe a dirt bike instead.

It just happens. '91 and I think '94 weren't that great either. '76 and '04-05 were worse as far as there wasn't even any high level snow. I feel that we have actually had 9 pretty decent years (with some great ones) prior to this year. Having been a sledder since 1974, I can remember some years that weren't so great. Also, a 6" snowfall was plenty deep for a 1974 Polaris colt 295....Its all in the perspective....

The TAY sight has some stuff on how the averages are. Hopefully we will have another decent 9 years after this.

Last year it didn't ride until February because it was just like this year. February and March were good but it sucks to only ride 2 months out of the year:face-icon-small-sad

Snowed in Duvall on March 20th the last 2 years. But 2004 was the last winter like this. There was more snow pack at this time last year.

Last year was a bad one for early and mid season snow but it was a precipitation issue more than a temperature issue. Last year we got a persistent high pressure pattern for November, December, and January, this year we're getting really warm temps to the tops of the volcanoes plus inches of rain at a time.

Thanks for all the input guys. Funny thing is that even with the horrible snow conditions, Ive still been having a great time :) Just wouldn't hurt to get a little more right about now..... Still able to get a few decent edits up so far this season.

First ride of this season lol

I threw together a couple graphs to compare snow depths and total accumulation at Snoqualmie pass for: this year, last year, a couple of good years ('08, '12), and one of the worst years('05).

You will notice that snow depth this year is about the same as last year at this time, and a bit better than '05, but it is actually the lowest of the years shown for total accumulation this year.

I've been having a great year so far. Just have to pour over the data, pick a location that has what you're seeking and go.

Coquihalla, Harts Pass, Goat Creek, Stevens Pass, SLS. Have had good to great snow every time. Been riding 1-2 times per week since November.

And as I get better with topo maps and Google Earth, I can foresee even more fun to be had as one doesn't have to limit themselves to sno-parks.

04-05 we had to go to revy for our second ride of the year and one of the last BIS turnouts, well there where a few more but that was a show. I've managed 200 on the new ride but did mow the lawn and weadeat the place, looks like spring at sea level, my bulbs of some sort are poping up all over, we still got 6 to 8 weeks of Hope but it's fading
