My wife was just offered a job at Rocky Mountain Medical Center and we are in the final stages of making the decision to move out. I'm a mechanical design engineer with 20 years of experience in plastic/electro-mechanical parts and assy's.

We just came out and toured the area last week and it seems housing is pretty high. What I need help in is several things.

First...places of employment. I've been applying and searching but unless you know someone on the inside it's nearly impossible it seems.

2nd finding a house to rent that is close to the hospital. Craigslist has been helpful on that but if you know of something with 3-4 bedrooms and lots of garage or land for storage that would be great.

3rd is finding a place to park my sled trailer and store my 40' shipping container that I use for a portable garage.

Thanks for the help....hope to be riding with some of you someday. I'm also a pretty good sled mechanic if anyone needs help as well.

If you're looking to stay for a while, i'd buy a house. Sellers want out and if you're approved for a loan, you'll have a lot of control over the price.

As far as employment, might look around the denver area. There's shuttle services and park-and-rides in that area, that can ease the pain of the commute.

I still have a home in Michigan for sale....been 3 years. Still have to rent for now as I don't want 2 mortages. Renting stinks, but that's life.

hmm too bad the place next door to mine just sold about 3 weeks ago, was for rent.

Anyway, There's probly a better chance of finding a place with a little more room to work with in an area like Milliken, Johnstown, Wellington, or the area between Loveland and Ft. Collins for a better price. (at least that's what I found last fall when I moved here) It's only about 10 minutes from Loveland. Housing varies widely in price from town to town but don't agree on anything until you have time to poke around the neighborhood. I suggest doing this in the evenings when people are out and about.

Like Mule said though for your field of work your probably going to have to look a little closer to Denver.

Yeah I saw the Doo dealer there. Is that the one right on 34? I'm applying at just about anywhere right now just to get a job. My unemployment runs out in Sept. so need to find something soon.

I've ridden the Snowies a few times, but what is closer? Where are the Rabbit Ears that I keep reading about?

I'm working on my sled trying to get it ready. 2006 440 REV with a 800HO transplant motor and stretched out my tunnel to 144. Adding a 146" Polaris Assault track to it with Ice Age rails to bolt on the 440 skid. Just waiting for my Avid 8" wheels to show up so I can mount the skid.

Yeah, felkers is right on 34 about 2 miles west of I-25.

The snowies is a closer drive than RE but it's still not far. I've been mostly riding RE myself. Went to the Snowies once this year and was having a real bad weekend, but that's another story. Anyway snowies is about 2.5 hour and RE is about 3.5 give or take depending on traffic and weather.

Oh I know there is closer stuff, just haven't been there, so I can't speak on them really,

and he only really asked about those two spots.

There is some stuff in the Winter Park area that may be worth checking out. It's a little closer. I've never been there, but Cameron Pass is close to Loveland also.

I have a few friends who have or thier wifes have been looking for jobs for over a year. Colorado seems to have a delayed reaction to national problems. Houseing drops hit here late, but when they hit they really did ! Jobs I suspect will follow suit. I would imagine the next year or two will show its true colors.

I was born and raised here so to me the high price of housing is normal, but nonetheless, your right it is high! Take a look in the mountians and suicide will follow!

Loveland, Ft.collins are nice areas. College townish problems in some areas. Greely never did much for me. There are some nice areas around loveland.

As a mechanical design engineer I am sure there is something you can find around. Colorado is not know for its manufacturing, unless you count the hippies in boulder making green-enviro-antimantter.

If I was smart (Education) such as yourself I would look here:

I hope something works out for you and your family.

Well with all those mountains I'm sure there is great riding alot closer. I would think that just west of Fort Collins there must be some good riding. I have my topomaps and GPS....just have to find some riding partners to go exploring. I'm not going in those mountains alone...too far to walk back.

What he ^^^ said.
There are some deals on homes in the Milliken, Johnstown, Mead, Windsor areas as well as some places in Loveland (although they are harder to find). The hospital is located in a great spot to get from regardless of where you are coming from. They overbuilt in Milliken so there are a lot of homes for sale. Don't really know of anyplace to rent, although rent will cost you almost as much as a mortgage will.

As for riding, yea, there are all kinds of places to go. The closer you are to denver, the more people you will run into unless you find someone that knows all the ins and outs of the area. I pretty much ride the snowies (closer and much bigger).

Lockheed Martin/Ball/Northrop Grumman are all good, if you can tolerate the government contract type work. Funding goes, jobs go.

Cameron pass is about the closest....I live in Loveland, and it takes me about 90 minutes from my house to the snow.....maybe quicker if you stop lower down...
lots of houses for sale here in Loveland.....jobs can be tough to come by these days.

Well we got a house rented in Loveland near the Winona grade school which is perfect for my 9 year old. He loves to swim and the pool is right across the street as well.

Made my first load out and back again for the 2nd trip.

Does anyone know of a place in the Snowies where I could rent a spot of land to have my container stored? It would be nice to have that right there and use as a place to keep my sleds. It is a 40' shipping container and I have half of it insulated along with a direct vent heater. It makes a nice warm shop for wrenching as well. Has doors on both ends too.

My cell is: 218-260-3005

thanks, Chuck

chuck you going to start doing custom sleds again?

If my life ever returns to a somewhat normal state and I get a good job then of course I'll be building custom sleds. Nothing better than building your own sled or one for someone else to enjoy.

I actually picked up a 06 440 REV this summer and put a 800 in it, boss seat, built my own custom tunnel extension, added Ice Age rails and a Polaris 146" Assault track, Fox floats up front, and painted it electric blue (similar to Yamaha metallic blue).

When I get a chance I'll post some pics of it. Should be a great ride for the mountains.....can't wait to try it out.

Thanks everyone for the help.
