Anyone Install the VE Wideboard Kit?

I'm looking at either the Better Boards or the VE Wide Boards. Have been reading some about the weakness of the factory rail and problems with bending after installing boards. Looking for input on the VE kit and what you feel about the rail strength compared to the factory bar. This is going on a '10 D8.

Bender

I just installed a VE tunnel extension and I have the Better Boards. Both are are HIGH quality pieces. My rails are bent and if anything the Better Boards improved rail rigidity. As far as bent rails being a problem I don't think they are. They sag about an inch and then they are stable. I have hit some very hard drops and the rails just stay where they are. If the rails were stiffened to the point were no sag took place the amount of energy transfer into your legs and back would probably be a bad thing. I say bend the rails and don't worry about it. Just use lots of rivets on the boards.

I think the VE is the way to go if your looking for a wider running board. The VE rail is much stronger than the stock rail. If your not looking for a wider running board then the Better Boards are a good way to go.

Installed VE wide running board kit Sun.and looks good.Take your time and get everthing to fit up before cutting and riviting and you should have no problem. The stock steel rail seems flimsy compared to aluminum VE rail, and why I chose these over better boards which I've also used before on a edge RMK and liked also. Both build quality stuff, but was looking for the stiffer rail.

FAAAAAWWWWWK, I wish I would have know that, then I wouldnt have just done an extension... I would have done that. I thought their tunnel sides, you pretty much had to tear down the sled........

Very nice Dave!!!!!!!!

I did my own sides, used meethookers(didnt have the time to wait for rob to custom fab a set for me...)..I just got the call today that the powdercoaters done so mine will go to final assembly this weekend..my bare sides with no runningboards weigh 6.5 pds each..havent weighed everything yet but so far it looks like I will loose 2-4 pds total(I run the factory steel tow hitch/bumper and it was heavy)
