Anyone heard about Fish and Wildlife ticketing due to area's not being open yet?

Rode out of Greenwater today with 09dragon800. Talked to the ranger twice and he did mention it not being open for snowmobilers yet but was not ticketing. He was in fact a very cool dude, he probably will be out on one of the states new Summit 800's himslef tomorrow.

Snow was a little thin, maybe 6 inches at the Y and 12+ at the Meadow Cabin as of 3 pm Saturady.

Bottom line, we did not get a ticket....

Yes, they CAN write you up until it is posted "no wheeled vehicles beyond this point". Until then it is like during the summer and opened to street legal vehicles....which a snowmobile is not. But they usually don't bother, especially if there is a good amount of snow.
I went riding once, only to find the road plowed in about 3 miles on the ride out :eek: They did it for the christmas tree hunters.

2nd that on the Ranger, nice guy. Went over an talked to him before I loaded my kids up for the road ride. It is nice to see some common sense in our public officials.

My middle boy is now riding his own sled, Whoo Hoo going to be a fun year for the family rides. :face-icon-small-hap:beer;:beer;

Yup, it was brought up at our local groomers meeting the other night. Forest service land is not legally open till the roads are closed and it is posted... usually Dec. 15th. However, the sheriff for our area said he wasn't going to be giving tickets if there was a reasonable amount of snow and people were being safe. DNR land such as Tampico has no laws against it, the DNR rep said "If there is snow, it's open"...

Isnt Tampico one of the spots that isnt getting groomed or the parking lot cleared??

Greenwater is offialy closed for sleding.

Went up with Casey and we ran into the Rander in his 4x4. He told us it is closed for riding snowmobiles untill they close the road for off roaders and 4x4's. They don't want sleds and 4x4 on the road at the same time. Sleding opens when they close the road passed the parking lot at the end of the pavement on road 70. He was real nice to us as we told him we had no idea the area was closed to snowmobilers at that time. So keep that in mind if your heading to Greenwater to go snowmobiling. You might not meet a so friendly Ranger up there. We got lucky and did. :eek:

That would be officer John Freindly. No B.S. thats his name and he's been patrolling that neighborhood for many years. Didn't talk to him personally today but saw his rig at the gravel pit. Don't smart off and he'll leave ya alone other than the "what you should be packing with you" speach.
