Anyone have their starter relay go TU?

#11 on the pic below.

Common to go TU? Mine was all corroded. Wouldn't run either fuel pump. Work on and off, etc. Starter would crank, gauges worked, not the fuel pumps. Replacement on order.

Believe it or not but Mine did the same thing eventually with me messing with it trial and error and trying to figure out the problem I blew the 30 amp fuses down by the silenoid. So of course I replaced them too.

Anyway no snowmobile stores were open so I went to the ford dealership where one of my buddies works and he had a whole drawer full of the relays and I matched up a couple of them and it worked great.

I have been on two long rides since and no problems at all.

The relay should not be more than about $8, if it is you are just paying too much because it says Yamaha on it.

As matter of fact,,,,this did happen,we cleaned the terminals and lubed it up with di-electric grease, and bingo,it works.

It's around $35 from Yamaha

I'm looking for this relay if anyone is parting a sled or knows where to find a new one. Part #5LW-81940-02-00 . Nothing local that i've found. Like to have one by the weekend.

Take your relay to any Auto parts store, I was told a relay is a relay.

As I said I simply walked into the Ford garage with my relay in hand. Mechanic took one look at it, took me to a drawer with about 150 relays just like mine in it, handed me one and I came home and pluged it in and it has not quit working yet.

Your snowmobile does not know one part number from another.

If you put a four post relay that looks like yours, it is probably capable of the same thing.

Doesn't the starter, ignition, and guages all pull power through that same relay? My guages and starter always have worked, just not the fuel pumps. So that leads me to believe the relay is fine, it's just a bad connection only on the red/green wire in that plug (the power wire to the fuel pump relay).

Would it work to tab into power somewhere else, like by the ignition your wire harness for the guage pod? Still going to replace the relay, just thinking about getting out before the parts arrive.

On the RX1 when you turn the key the relay allows power to the fuel pumps as you continue to turn the key to the start position it sends power to the sylenoid and on to the starter.

We had all the senarios you seem to have when we were trying to figure this out last week.

There are other relays too, they look different and one of mine was buzzing so I replaced it also with a matching FORD relay.

Ford parts really work well on RX1's!!
