Anyone have tendonitis?

My elbow is constantly feeling like I hit my funnybone.
Hurts to move elbow under any load.
If I shake someones hand & they give me a good firm shake, it hurts like heck.
If I do actually bump the elbow I wanna cry like a darn girl.
Been this way a couple of months now & not getting better.

Any suggestions before I break down & go to the doc?

If I go to a Dr, should I skip the GP & go to an Ortho right away?

In the last year I've had it in both elbows and in my right foot (of all the crazy places!). I had PT on one elbow - with just a referral from my regular doc. When the other one flared up, I simply treated it at home. Ice and ibuprofen. 600mg, 3x a day, for 10 weeks. There were also different exercise I was suppose to do....and lots of stretching. I would recommend the PT though. It was WELL worth it. Good luck! Hope you get it resolved BEFORE sledding starts. Dang near impossible to hang on to the bars! Oh - and those ace bands work too.

ALEVE works good for me. Sometimes it just needs rest.

Cortisone shot may help but a good orthopedic MD will want to look at xray/mri first since cortisone shot is great for inflamation but not applicable for everything like tears.

you should get it looked at now since sledding season is around the corner.

Got it in my wrist. Hasn't flared up in a while, when it does I usually just brace it and try to give it a rest.

Few years of drumline, masturbation, and computerizing taking its toll, i guess.

LOL,

My wife had it in her wrist where the back of the hand and the wrist joint met it got bad enough she would cry cause of the pain at night, from years of being a kitchen aid and doing dishes and cooking all day, like running the overhead waterhose on the dishes everyday for over 10yrs, (repetitious work seems to be a big factor), She had to have surgery to have a build-up removed, it was like a knot or ball in the joint of her wrist. hard to explain but hope its understood. after her surgery and Physical Training it got alot better in a short time, and now I don`t think she notices it unless she tries to lift something, or has to hold the coffee pot with that hand. She wishes now she didn`t wait so long before she had it checked out in the first place ,probably wouldn`t of hurt so bad. The shot terrified her so she put it off over and over, etc.... she decribed it like a tingling and or pain all the time.

Alot of people were telling her she had carple tunnel, seems to be easily mixed up with tendonitis, or at least where she would mention it hurt.

Get it check out as soon as possible, Good Luck.

Left elbow 2 yrs ago. Physio and acupuncture did nothing. Saw my Dr. and one Cortisone shot worked amazingly. No problem with the left since. Right one started up half way through riding season last winter. First Cortisone shot gave relief for about 4 weeks. Second one cleared it up....... but now my back and shoulder hurt:D DR. said Cortisone is not good to over use on weight bearing joints but wrists and elbows can be used every 4 to 6 months. Good luck, it's not fun!:beer;

I get it all the time. Cortazone shots totally kill the pain and I usually get one when riding season starts and it will last until March and I'll get another one. It works great. No need to live with that pain.

:beer;:D:beer;

got it sooooo bad in my wrist a couple of years ago couldn't even hold a pen, got one of the wrist braces and just grunted it out until it got better...

Had it for 20yrs now. had the arm band, shot's tylenol etc. Found a pretty good remidy after going to a local sports medicine doctor about a back problem. Due to smoking, greasy foods and lots of dairy my mucus membranes along the nerves and discs of my back were being inflamed and starting to pinch a nerve and cause back problems. I used to go down for a week at a time and I noticed it was when I ate pizza or some other greasy food for a few days. I also used to have to shoot archery at least once a month to keep the tendons tight in my right shoulder from a sled injury. But as soon as I consciously cut back on dairy product intake, and cutting back on greasy foods. My back felt awesome in a couple weeks but also I have not needed to shoot my bow and I havn't had the tennis elbow pain since neither. But if I have pepperoni pizza or something else loaded with grease, the pain starts to come back for a couple of days until it gets out of my system. I no longer eat a fast food places or even resaurants hardly ever. I picked up a 20 minute meals, healthy gourmet cooking and a weight watchers book and a decent cutlery set and that got me on the right path. Not saying it may work for you but it may be cheaper and more benificial in the long run than going to see doctors that want to make money off you.
