Been thinking about how awesome it would be to have a little cabin up in the hills. Not like a house near the highway, but a small piece of land up the logging roads somewhere. Is this even possible? I have no idea how it all works. Id imagine if a logging company can lease tons of acreage and clear cut it, youd think someone could lease a small piece of property for a small non permanent cabin.

yep would be cool but typically speaking, logging companies do not lease the dirt held by the likes of weyerhaeuser, DNR, Hancock etc. They are hired to log areas specified by the landowner for a price per thousand board feet (MBF) or on a percentage split basis- logger gets x % and landowner gets x %.

Yeah it all seems pretty messing dealing with private land, national land, state land, and all having different laws etc. What a head ache

loggers

Yeah us terrible loggers clear cutting all those trees..but it makes for good places to ride.....:)

the logging roads that we ride to get to the backcountry have a few little cabins here and there on forest circus land.most people only use them in the summer around these parts

Me and about 9 friends own about 15 square foot cabin at GC. It's in a 1000 acre playground. Pretty legit.

Totally possible. There's one for sale in my area right now. There are pieces of private land mixed in out there. There are also some cabins on Forest Service property that are leased out, but it is rare for them to come up available, many are on 99 year leases that can be transferred within family. All of those that I have seen have been in valley bottoms, but also require snowmobiles to get to in the winter. In the last year, Longview Fiber put a ton of pieces up for sale in Chelan county. In general, you see more real estate signs out driving in the woods than you would expect.

Good to know. I guess Ill just have to keep doing some research and saving up ;)

Dont purchase one located on deeded land (forest circus) land as you will be paying a yearly fee for having a structure on thier land. That is exactly what i have been doing these past few years of having owned this cabin located in the Gold Creek Summerhomes off of hwy 410 near Whistlin Jacks. Cabin has been in family since the 60's. Our family used to pay around $300 a year but now it has gone up to $1200.

I might buy something (ride from the cabin) in Canada for the senior tour... about 8 years out. Maybe a sled / fish place. We'll have to see what the climate does... and Canada is not too shy about clear cuts!!!

Try rersearching realtor web sites. Thier's land and land/house for sale out there.
I have a place up in the Gold Creek area, and thiere is place near me that has a J.L. Scott for sale sign.
FYI, most bank will not loan on a house that is off the grid, or not fully bulit, and don't has emergencey services.
You will need the $$ up front, or a good down payment and see if the seller will carry the contract.
Look, and you can find. That how I did it, search web sites, then drive the forrest service roads.

Buy a cabin by me and come trail ride :face-icon-small-coo

Lots of Mtn bike and dual sport trails too. Have to build your own jumps, could be done, i'll watch.

I frequently have the same thought. It would be sweet to have a little cabin to ride out of. Private land is about the only way to go, the guy that has the cabin at gold creek is right the federal government has become Nazis when it comes to people intruding in THEIR forest, the lease rates have over quadrupled. I know guys with a "bootleg" cabin up little Naches up HWY 410, it worked for a little while but this summer DNR put a notice on it to either tear it down or the state would. I don't know where you are based out of but there are some nice places for sale and lots for sale past Tampico up the North Fork Ahtanum.
