Anyone had your shoulder scoped?

I'm a highschool baseball player and just got the news today that I have to have shoulder surgery to repair my torn labrum. just wonderin if anyone has had a shoulder scope and what i should expect. doctor told me alot, but i'd like some first hand stuff. thanks!

Had torn labrum, rotator cuff repair and shaved bone all in one procedure two years ago.

1 year to full recovery for range of motion and strength.

Use a Physical Therapist for Rehab.

Dont rush back too soon. If you reinjure it you are screwed.

Go with scope vs. traditional surgery. Scope is less invasive.

If you are in the Missoula Mt area contact Dr. Larry Stayner at Northern Rockies Orthopedic.

If it is your right shoulder and you are right handed you are in for some interesting surpises.........you will see what I mean after taking your first dump following surgery.

Enjoy the painkillers.

Cutter whos your doc, My buddy I ride with had his done right before thanksgiving in the burg and he was back on a sled end of Jan. The doc up there is good.

Both of my rotator cuffs have been tron for over 7 years now. I should get that fixed one day. But I'm not doing it in the winter, too busy at work in the summer

I had mine done a few years ago. Didn't take me more than about 3 months to heal up, but I reinjured it, and now, it's screwed. Just my experience with my injuries, but I basically have 85% range of motion. I've lost most if not all of the overhead use of both my arms (which i'm sure is not a common thing). I have range of motion over my head, but I have to be VERY VERY careful about not having any weight on my arm at all when it's extended.

Basically, LET IT HEAL RIGHT, and it'll treat you well. Don't reinjure it like I did...

Good luck!

Just had mine done last wednesday, Scoped left shoulder , 2 bone spurs removed, top tendon was frayed , which they trimmed and shaved the bone to make nicey!! Feels pretty good so far , but it is sore. Don't nobody be touching me!!!! I did the right shoulder 10 years , better then ever . Hope this 1 will be the same.

I rolled the 4 wheeler about a month ago and landed on my shoulder hard. I haven't been right since. I don't like going to the doctor so I haven't gone yet.

I sneeze and it almost makes you want to cry. I may be going in. I hope I don't have to do what you guys had to, it doesn't sound like fun.

Thanks for the info! Bubba, my doc is Dr Andary, he is suposed to be excelent..its good to hear many of you have had good results, keeps me feeling alright about things!

Dr. Andary ....

he's the best around here!! That's who did the surgery on my femur. Two years ago Slim had shoulder surgery with him, and tomorrow is having elbow surgery with him. Have you talked to Slim about your shoulder, he healed up in about 3 months, and he's old. CC - when's your surgery? Tell your Mom if she needs any help, it's my turn. ;) Besides, how could you go wrong with Dr. Andary - he operated on the "ROCK".

Yea he did my buddies shoulder last fall, other buddies knee last spring, and my and another buddies wrist 2 years ago. Your in good hands just make sure you do what he tells ya. Let it heal a 100% If you mess it up before you heal your screwed.

Had my right shoulder done march 7 and they did some work on my torn AC joint, did 90lb dumbell chest press on Tuesday and today is shoulder day, so hoping for 80lb dumbell overhead press and 180 smith machine.....I am being tested on May 10 at the U of C as they used some new fangled bionic stuff on me.....I feel like 10 million bucks........

had my hip done last year in Vail by Marc Philippon...i will be using his team if i ever need scoped again..for anything

CC, you'll be fine. Yer young, strong, athletic and you are intelligent. Just listen to the Doc and don't be a puss on yer rehab. The term "no pain no gain" is correct, just don't overdoo it. Dr. John will say "Let pain be your guide on how much excercise you do";)

I was playing pool 3 days after my rotator/bone spur/bicep ligament fix surgery :D Shot the best round in the Masters I ever did, cause it slowed me down, hehehhehehe. But I dont recommend what I did

You'll be back doing normal activities within a month, BUT very slooowly.
