As you head south from Riggins towards New Meadows, has anyone driven east where hazard creek comes to HYW 95, unloaded, and boondocked in towards Hazard Lakes?? Does anyone think this could be a good ride? Looking on my gps map software, there are two roads heading in, but elevation is pretty low. So, if there isn't enough snow to ride on, you would need to keep driving in, but maybe the road is mud???? Any thoughts?

It's been done. They left a rig at McCall and rode thru. They went toward morgan lake, up the atv trail. It's a tough ride the bottom by the river is low that is the tough part. There are a few more but alot of that just adds to the adventure. That trail to morgan lake goes all the way thru in the summer but i don't know for sure if they followed that trail way or not i don't think they did. Up top it really opens up in the summer. Good luck i just wouldn't plan on riding back down to your truck on the river.

there is lots of good riding in there. we call the area denny creek. i'd tell ya how to get there but then i'd have to kill ya;)

i havent personally rode it this year but my uncle and his buddies have a few times and said it was great. they were there last friday.

I was just curious I have been taking this season off from riding but know there are some climbs that would challenge your turbo.

All the times I've been in the area I've only seen other snowmobiles one time.

SCOTEP, what rode do you turn on coming out of riggins. I see that Denny Creek comes to 95 north of Pinehurst even. My idea was going past pinehurst and up. My buddies and I are just looking for a shortcut vs going clear to brundage upper lot and fighting for a parking place.

Boy thats a tough ride. As Ice Biker said, you could try the Morgan Lake trail if you made it to the ridge you would have to ride out past buck and coffee cup lakes then turn and go down into the Grassy Twin lakes ( not the Granite Twins) that would put you on the Goose Lake road. We have went from the other way, goose lake road to Vance creek up on top and from there you might be able to work down to Teepee Springs and that road comes out at Hazard Creek. At any rate thats some unforgiving country I would not try it unless you were with someone that knew that country well.

i dont know if i would agree w/ that but it is a fun ride. it would have to be some deep snow

I've never ridden on or with a turbo sled so you could be right. I do know I couldn't touch some of the hills with my ported 800. I'll see if I can dig up some more pictures just to make sure we're talking about the same hills.

Another option which might be a little tamer would be Elk Lake rd into Elk lake then boondock across to the ridge above upper twin lakes and drop in. We have climbed out of Upper twin back up to that Ridge on 2001 800 summits 8 years ago so It would be real doable to come back out.

We've gone from Hazard road to the north side of Hard Butte and down to Elk Lake so I am sure that you can make it from 95. There is alot of fun riding back there.

not trying to sound arrogent so dont take this the wrong way... but unless there was 2ft plus of fluff i'm pretty posative that any good running turbo could climb that w/ ease, if not on the first try on the second. turbo's take riding to a whole new level that i never thought possible before. these next photos are a pull my sled made pretty easily w/ 8-12" fresh earlier this season.

turbos ROCK!

Nothing in Denny Creek will challenge a turbo sled unless it was way deep.
Denny Creek, and Hazard Creek are not the same area. They are totally different points on Hwy 95.
