Anyone ever used one a rope winch sledding?

I use to carry something like this : http://www.amazon.com/Maasdam-PowR-Pull-EZ-Winch/dp/B000CDDS4A

The one I have has a folding handle and I replaced the the steel cable and hooks. I used 1.25" strap and it was plenty strong for winching sleds....even boosted yamaha's :) It only weighed like 3 or 4 lbs.

The only time I used it was actually to lower sleds down a VERY steep hill/cliff. Now I just ride smarter :) Eric

I'm thinking of doing something more like this:

I have a 300' length of mule tape and other rope that I think would be nice to tie one end on a sled and then you can be anywhere and pull. Plus if you only want to use the pulley to redirect for another sled going away to help pull you could do that.

The small block & tackle is what I used to pack for hanging elk up in a tree.

I keep intending to throw together a 3:1 setup. 3-400' of 6mm perlon, or similar and some pulleys. Doing so affordable and light weight is the tricky part.

Decent rope that is small light and tough enough isn't cheap.

Here is what I keep in the truck just in case. If really needed, someone can run back to the truck and fetch it (as long as someone can get out).

Roughly $120
Endless pull ability, limited only by your length of rope. I have 100'.
1500# capacity

I also carry a rope-ratchet and that sometimes comes in handy. I can hook it to my snobunge if nobody is present to help and cinch up the tension just as if someone was pulling on the bunge.

I've also carried two little double pulleys and rope but it seemed to be all jumbled up when I took it out of the bag, like a tangled mess. Never actually used it other than pulling a dead sled onto trailer.

I carry a ratchet strap and a snobunje, sometimes use them in tandem when getting unstuck by myself. Can be very very helpful if you get creative.

I carry a bunch of 1/4 rope with me l,when stuck or can't get up what I dropped down I roll sled on its side and tie rope to the track clip flop sled back down, then tie other end to a tree, stand next to sled give a little gas and away u go,when u get out flop back over and untie from track
