Anyone ever have this happen? What should I replace?

I took a bunch of scouts to Strawberry this saturday. One kid hopped on my sled and rode it for about 15 minutes with the brake on! I don't know how it did not just burn the belt but it didn't.
The brake rotor got so hot that the radiant heat started melting the coolant line that is right there and it melted my pull rope in two!
It seems to be just fine now but with that much heat I am wondering if I should pull the chain case and check things out. I mean that bearing is right there and the coolant line is about 2" away from the rotor and the pull rope is even farther!
Any suggestions?

It wouldn't hurt to check that out, and possibly replace that bearing. It's better to be safe than to have that sucker lock up on you 30 miles out in the middle of gods country.

If that jack shaft locks up, you aren't going anywhere without taking off the chain.

The good news is that the jack shaft is a little easier to replace than the drive shaft bearings. It's more accessible.

Consider yourself lucky. I have had a couple rentals where people have done this and started the sleds on fire. Luckily neither of them were a total loss because the renters were able to put the fire out, but we had to put in new rotors, calipers, and brake lines, not to mention various other parts. The most recent was on an 09 xp so we did replace the bearring on the drive shaft just to be safe. I would recommend it. Good luck.
