Anyone ever build a CroMo motor mount crossmember for the 900's?

I have been thinking about this since my motor mount crossmember apparently cracked in half last year ...

What would it take to replicate the factory aluminum peice but make it out of 4130 Chrome Molly steel?

That, and make it about 1/16th of an inch shorter and throw some durometer "end caps" on the ends to offer a 'soft point' between the bulkhead and the crossmember ....

This would be a much beefier way of mounting the motor, especially in conjunction with Compfusion's mounts.... the durometer between the bulkhead and crossmember might even dampen a little vibration ...

What do you guys think?

If you can do it, I'll take one! You could probably sell them similar to the way Colin (Compfusion) sells his mounts, part time with alot of demand. Do it! I dare ya!

there may be a billet crossmember in the works for next year that incorporates mounts like compfusions

I have a spare from last year's engine swap, and I have thought alot about bracing / reinforcing it... but if someone makes something like what you guys are talking about, I would be all over it $$$

I'm still plotting and planning on this 900 ... now that I have a decent sled to ride when the 900 is down, I'm not so depressed ...

I'm still thinking I might wanna turbo this thing some day, but I am not gonna do that with the stock motor mount crossmember ... I know Derek has said he hasn't broken any with the T900's he's built, but I apparently have much worse luck than him :)

I'm thinking now that I have a garage and I can actually work on this sled myself, I'm gonna do a track upgrade on it for next season then decide what turbo options are still available .... who knows, maybe this thing will wind up being a T975 with a 174" track ....

do this to it and you will have no more problem you will have 4 mounts and not those cheesy polaris mounts.

ABSOLUTELY..this is a solid upgrade right there..

i have a solid billet cross member myslef..was cutsom made for that exact reason..but like BD said..there will most likely be a similar billet brace available this spring/summer...just like the billet chaincase cover this summer..

2poor...sorry man, been over my head lately..i will call you this week ;)

I fabricated my own front crossmember from 3" X 1" 6061-T6. It has worked very well for about 1 1/2 seasons now, but was very time comsuming to build at home with nothing more than a drill press, hand drill, grinder and files. Also layout takes a fair bit of time considering how critical it is for alignment that all holes are in exactly the right spots.

If anyone on here has access to a CNC machine that uses Surfcam, Cadcam... any machining software that works with Solidworks let me know. I have Solidworks, a lot of spare time, and a crossmember I could reverse engineer to get a file from to import to the machine to make the part. But I would make it one solid piece instead of hollowing it out like Polaris did. A member on here made one (High Velocity I think). Let me know.

I have access to a few CNC machines, I'm sure one of them uses Solidworks. If you get a drawing done and still need someone to cut it out let me know, but I know there's a few other guys on here that have them in their own shop also.

I know Surfcam and similar software packages just use the part file and the program generates all the steps and cuts. So all you need to do is put in a piece of aluminum and it'll do the rest. But, if you need a detailed drawing I can do that too.
