Anyone else with an 800R in a ZX Summit?

I am almost done with my Summit project. I destroyed the engine in my '03 Summit about two years ago, and last year bought an '07 800R engine for it (since it was $1600 versus $3000 for a HO). It has been quite a project! All I have left to finish is either get a newer DPM and the solenoids for it, or install powervalve block off plates. Not sure which route is better. I rode it around the yard tonight, and it works, but not perfect yet. With the vacuum lines plugged in, it has good power down low but only 7500rpm, and with them unplugged, it will get around 8100 or so. Probably one of the few 800R's with twin pipes!

Tom's Snowmobile has a conversion that blocks off the vacuum lines to the Raves and pins the guillotines. That also loses the lame internal springs that break all the time and converts the RAVES over to being gas powered now just like your '03 was. Can't recommend this mod enough for the 800R!

PS - Tell Tom I sent ya!

Thanks a lot! I couldn't find the conversion kit on that website...maybe you could? That is just what I need. I will try to get some pictures of the installation if I can. The sled is at the shop right now, but I will probably get over there soon. It was a lot of work...the cast-in engine mounts had to be removed, and the old mount plate bolted on (fortunately the 800R had the same bolt pattern on the bottom of the case). All of the wiring hooked up with no mods, fortunately. Because of the way the engine sits, there have been some fitment issues with my Speedwerx twin pipes and the airbox. I had to remove the stock vibration dampeners, and installed thin rubber washers sandwiched between steel washers and the mounting brackets. I also had to modify the mounting brackets to fit, due to the 800R wanting to sit too far to the left in the engine compartment with the 800HO mounting plate. Not too extreme of modifications, but it took a little work.

They're not on his site, just tell him you spoke with me about them. He'll also have some good tips for you on setting up the electrical to work best. Tom is always busy so just keep trying him on the phone until you get him. His advice and experience is invaluable.

Cheers,

G
