Anyone else run into Recoil rattling off??

Mine completely rattled off last season and had to wedge it to start while on the hill. Got it put back together with new bolts and locktite. It recently just rattled off again and stretching the bolt holes in the process. Just curious if anyone else is having this issue or if anyone has found a good fix for this in the past..Thanks in advance!

I always check mine once a year and seem to find a loose one or two. I have seen them rattle off before. If the holes are egged out on the recoil cover they might not want to stay tight. You may have to helicoil the holes that are pulled and replace all of the bolts.

I had it happen to my 06 M7 two years ago. I didn't know it was a common problem and never checked the bolts. 2 or 3 of them were missing and the 2 next to each other took the brunt of the force to pull the motor over - the stator housing broke on mine and I had to replace it and the recoil due to wrecked holes in the recoil too. Now I check it once a month. No problems since loctiting the bolts.

my buddie and I have had it happen to both of ours, every m7 rider needs to check those bolts regularly

Kinda pathetic that it needs to be checked that often. LOL. I used loctite last time and still rattled the bastard loose. Oh well, could have worse problems. Thanks for the input fellas..

I've gone to putting red Loctite on about everything lately. Normally bolts/nuts come free pretty easily but if not just heat a little with one of those cheap $3 butane pen-torches. Blue Loctite just doesn't cut it with all the vibration on a sled.

it happened to me as well. holes on the recoil cover had been enlarged. a little loctite and some fender washer and it solved my problem.

Its worth it to take the recoil starter off in the summer and replace the rope. The rope broke on my wifes M7 and pulled itself into the starter. I started the sled with a tie down around the clutch and started heading home, just like every other time I have had a problem with a recoil starter. After about 10 miles, something got caught up in there and wrapped the rope and the spring up in the flywheel. In the process, the stator, flywheel and recoil starter were destroyed. Not cheap. If your rope breaks and winds up inside the starter, take the recoil starter off before clutch starting.
