know they still have the apex for 2010 and they didn't include it in the shootout like they did last year!!! seems that yami is still commited to building the same thing year after year and hoping their consumers will be loyal enough to follow. thier best thing for the mountains is a 130hp sled??? think the alure of the fourstroke is wearing off, i think that was there best selling point. so now where are they??? thier 800 class sled, apex, is sooooo outdated snowest wouldn't waste thier time putting it up against the new 800's. they're working on getting their 130hp sled down to the same weight the 800's were years ago. with the turbo 2 stroke now being a common thing, i'm sure the reliabilty of the 2 stroke is VERY close to the 4 stroke, and the engine doesn't cost more than the sled to rebuild!!!!! think at least in the mountain segment yami has been left far behind...

What I have seen, a stock yami in the mtns in the 800 class side of things is very out classed as far as steep and deep conditions go. Can it get around, sure! But not as well as the other three. Guess they figure most are forcing air in or staying out of the deep for the most part. Not sure about the outdated part, but I thought they were slowly getting the weight off. Maybe they are weighing the option of a factory whistle and become untouchable in the mtn 800 class.

Hmmm..... I don't think many are going to agree with this point.

I don't think their popularity is fading. I'm seeing more Yammi's than ever in the parking lot these days, all Nytros though.

who cares if they are getting better or not, i sure hope they never get better. look at atvs and dirtbikes, almost all 4 stroke now..hope that never happens to snowmobiles. even if it does though, i'll be the only 2 smoker in a group of thumpers just like in the summer time on my dirtbike :)

I really wish Yamaha would get creative with their snowmobiles. Yamaha quality and reliability are second to none. I figure if they can make a 220-lb 4-stroke 450cc dirt bike they darn well ought to be able to make a sub 530-lb 4-stroke snowmobile ...

Well all i can say is that there is no reason they can't be getting 180 hp out of the apex motor. I used to be a die hard yami rider because of quality and the plush ride. But i got tired of the sled holding me back. For those of you that have been to a yami convention, i went to west yellowstone last year and they flat out told us they were gearing more toward the midwest and east where their sales are great. A lot (not all) really like the 4-stroke and plush ride for trails and ditch banging.

It's not an equivilant!

If Yamaha made an 800 4T machine some would suggest that it was not fair yet since it would lose in most catergories other than looks and quality.

If the deciding factor was like in the NMA where they allowed larger 4T's to compete against smaller 2T's the situation would be drastically different.

You could compare a mountain machine to a snocross model as they do in other powersports, but that line seems to be getting greater everyday with the rellavence of short track smaller displacement MX sleds that are like fish out of water against gargantuan designated high horsepower hill climbers.

Every time us oneskis go out we are basically on a "shootout" with mc conversions, 500-800+cc Hawks. Sometimes there is no contest, other times you might as well use your reason for this thread but not because a certain machine or manufacturer is missing but so and so rider was not there with their talent.

I'll bet gun magazines don't test 50cal's against 22's, and lifted F350 guys don't consider WRX's 4x4's!;)
