Anybody swap out their Assault track for powder tracks?

Anyone running a 2.5 or the RMK track on their Assaults?

Cat...Stan(RACE on here) put the 146 5.1 track on his last year..I think if you only ride p-ville and turny it works awesome...for everywhere I think the camo-x is better...I am putting the camo-x on my D-8 right now because of watching how good dougs did last season...

x2....What Mike said! After Dougie spanking us last year, I am in the middle of putting a camo x under mine right now as well. Awesome all around track.

I don't run anything BUT the 2.5 Camo Extreme for the past couple years. Best all around mountain track IMO.

I'm swapping a Camo X onto an Assault next week also.

If you are in the market for one let me know, I know a guy who knows a guy :beer;

I ran a 2.5 extreme for a number of years Billy, it is a great track for our Alaska conditions. The stock Assault track is pretty one dimensional and not all that impressive in light powder.

My two cents.

Track swap.

I have been following similar threads for about year now, as I would like to swap our Assault tracks for the Camo X 2.5

This Camo track is of course better than the stocker at anything short of hillclimb/hillcross competition, but I have read that if you go with the 2.5 on an Assault, you end up pinching the clearance down between the front of the track and the bulkhead, creating high tunnel snow load conditions, equalling decreased performance. I beleive 7" Avid Extrovert drivers are then recommended to attain desirable clearance. (I can't remeber exactly the size)

It seems that the Camo 2.0 would be an easier swap.

I remember from last year, you could not just swap the track for another one, without also changing the drivers, (to a regular RMK style driver) due to the track window placement being different. But I believe the Camo-X has that covered now.

BTW I would be willing to sell one or both of these stock Assault tracks, racers?

You could do a drop and roll...I am doing Curts(Fastrax motorsports) on my D-8 163 and really it isnt that hard..the kit makes it pretty simple to do...I am using my stock drivers with the camo-x 2.5 track in 2.86 pitch.....(I decided that until I install bigger power the stock drivers will work fine), by using stock drivers the only cost is the track and D&R kit..no need for antistab kit, different drivers or rails....which can all be easily updated later when needed...

Good information.

Yes, a D & R is an option, many have posted simlar solutions, but it is a little too close for riding for me to do a double teardown, the driver swap with the 2.5 would be the solution for me.

but these tracks did ok last year for early season, they get excellent traction on rocks, alders, fallen logs, and cowering forest animals.:D

D&R on an Assault would be a good idea for boondockin with it, unless ramping it hard like it was said to be built for, that kinda goes out the window.

AKSNOWRIDER whats the drop and roll on that kit? Drivers gonna be pokin down quite a bit more?

Curts kit drops 5/8 and moves back 1 inch..I think an average guy can do the kit over a weekend easily....or over the course of a week working nights after work....I talked to Curt long and hard about it and I think its worth the effort.....really helps the on snow performance...and I doubt it would hurt at all as far as jumps and drops...watching dougs D-7 last season the difference was amazing..you could watch as he slowed on a steep deep climb..it would just keep lunging back up on top and going where as before it would have been long since stuck..I have been taking pics of the whole process and once mine gets close to done I will start a thread showing the whole deal..I was very surprised at how bad my track rubbed the front of the stock coolers,I have been very good about keeping track tension at spec..but it is obvious that it was hurting deep snow performance...

As SnowRider said, I swapped the track out because of the miserable performance of the stocker. In deep snow coupled with steep terrain you had to start thinking of turning out early or you were stuck. When I changed it out to the 146" 5.1 there was a night and day difference in the performance of the sled, it climbed way higher, it got on step sooner & stayed there longer in the deep. It was the single best upgrade I put on the machine. Does it say something about the 5.1.........don't know...... after reading all the good reports on the Camo Extreme, I think its say's more about the stock track.

Hatchers with the 5.1

Mr Stan, how you doing?...ready to ride?..pics look good...that thing is such a blast to ride........:beer;:beer;:beer;

Doing Good, I'm ready as the next rider out the chute. I'm going to leave the sled just as it came from the dealer with the new update, basically stock. Just in case :eek:.
