Well, made it up there. Looks like it had been cleared out just a few days prior. Last Resort is sure piled up.
The blower and grader were busy on the way up.
I've haven't seen the snow this high in years up there, if ever. I've been going up there since I was born almost 35 years ago. Our family has had the cabin since the early 60's and my dad was hard-pressed to remember a higher year as well. Here he is standing next to the bank and he's 6-2. This is right at the Cooper turnoff.
The nice thing about the high bank is it makes for the easiest loading/unloading ever.
This was a quick trip as I had to get back over to the west side as I flew out to Boise the next day for my 2Moto demo ride. As I don't have a sled now, I was on Mom's state-of-the-art '91 530 Powder Special. Needless to say, those test rides were looking good. We made it up to the cabin quick. Here's how it looks now. Wish I had a summer shot to compare it with.
Here's Dad coming down to the porch. The porch is normally a good 5' off the ground.
Beautiful view!
We came up to check that both the roof and deck were ok. The roof was pretty good. We left the heat on at the lowest level to hopefully break up the load. It worked. We needed to get the deck cleared off. The new cabin is now 15 years old. The deck has held up well, but a good rain on top of this load could spell doom for it. The weather was supposed to warm somewhat in the next forecast so we went to work.
We stopped there. The last foot was that grainy stuff that doesn't break off well so we stopped. I didn't want to kill myself anymore than I already had for the next day ride. At least we could see the lake now.
Quick up, quick down. Nice to see everything is good. I really need to use it more often in the winter. Great base camp for that area. Next year, I'll do it on a 2Moto!
