Anybody have experience with IVF (invetro)

My wife and I have been trying to get pregnant for a long time with no luck and the docs are baffled. We are scheduled for the IVF procedure in less than a month.

Anybody have any (HOPEFULLY) good stories.

Just trying to make a child (either sex would be great at this point) and create a future mtn rider :)

Very expensive process and our last chance to have one of our own.

My sis and bro-in-law got triplets out of the deal. None identical, two girls and a boy. They are now 28 months old.

Sis was fine. B.i.l. didn't have the tubes that connect the testes to the penis to get the sperm out...he produced sperm, but it didn't go anywhere. So, the docs went in and got it. They attempted to fertilize 10 eggs...3 took. Then came the question of whether or not to implant all 3 and hope for twins, or just two and hope for a single with the chances for a second later on. They decided to do it once and go for twins. Two weeks later the doctor did an ultrasound, looked over at my sis and said "um, how many did we implant? Three? Wow...that never happens!" and turned the screen to show her all three embryos had taken.

7 months later my bro-in-law got brought home from Iraq (talk about a three-ring circus to get a guy outta there when he's leading Marines) when my sis was life-flighted to a hospital that could handle level 5 (I think that's the term) premi babies. They were born 8 weeks early and were all under 4 pounds...BUT, they were all very healthy. They were in the hospital 8 more weeks, and then got to go home. Worst problem is that the boy has slight asthma and one of the girl's doesn't have the best vision, but it's decent.

My sister added up all the bills one time to see what the kids were worth. From the day they started the invetro stuff, to the day the kids left the hospital it was a bit over $1.2 million. The boy was worth over half that by himself.

Did ya catch the part about my b.i.l. being a Marine? ;) They spent $5000 out of pocket for the entire thing. They'd get a bill, send it on to the USMC and not worry about it again. :)

So I guess it's a good story...it worked out very well for them.

No experience with IVF, honestly I don't even have much experience with the traditional way. LOL

I'll be wishing the best for you both, hope it goes well. EW

that sux, the people who want kids cannot have them. and all the low life scum who don't want or care for kids are having them like rabbits.

maybe that's why your not successful with the "normal" way?....;)

Lady at work just went thru the process.....it took the second try. sounds stressful which doesn't help in the thing taking hold, but it worked. Best of luck to you.

I wish them the best but, Anyone ever wonder why our healthcare costs just keep going through the roof?

Maybe because of drug/alcohol addiction, treatment, cure, health effects. Maybe due to the explosion of cancer and the care it requires which must be linked to what we eat, drink, breath, smoke, etc. Maybe due to the epidemic of AIDS, other diseases due to shared needles, STD's, obesity (and yes I am one), heart disease linked to all the above and lack of excercise. Maybe because so many are without health care but still require it with the addictional costs being passed on to those of us who do pay for it.

But the biggest reason why healthcare cost are going through the roof is because those in the healthcare and pharmaceutical (sp) business are making record profits off all of the above.

What was your point man.......... I sure hope it wasn't that the cost of IVF for parents willing to go through that stressful process was a bigger hit on your health care costs than welfare moms who have several kids and neglect to care for or raise any of them properly.

Again, I hope it's a Happy Mothers day this time next year for PCDOC and the Mrs. EW

Friends of mine tried for a long time to get pregnant. Saw many Docs and never found anything wrong or why they couldn't get pregnant. Ended up adopting a newborn. Fast forward almost 2 years later and they got pregnant and had a little boy. Now they have the two boys and a happy life.

Sometimes I think the mysterious reasons people can't get pregnant is due to stress. My wife was so stressed about getting prenant for the first time it took a while, plus I told her to keep away from me when she was so stressed. Our second child was concieved by almost no more than a passing smile from myself to my wife.

Good luck and lose the stress & keep trying.

Maybe it's all of the above and the fact that some people are too stupid to understand simple math.

My brother and sis-in-law did it twice. They had triplets -- their first son is now 7 and the other boys are 5 1/2 (they were all from the same batch of fertilized eggs, just froze them and thawed a few out 18 months later.:D

That's funny as h*ll!!!!!!!!! I keep thinking the same thing. If we are successfull in June we will have a Feb baby. That really sucks for riding, but I'm more than willing to give up a year for kids.

The stress has been a big issue for my wife and it's not getting any better since she just got accepted for grad school in the fall.

Thanks to all for the good wishes and stories.

My wife and I tried it and one took, but it didn't stay! She ended up having to undergo a DNC. We ended up adopting and I can tell you this...

...we are just as happy. We got him when he was still wet and he hasn't left our sight since!:D Good Luck and God Bless!

A good friend of mine and his wife tried for over 5 years exhausting every other option and then went IVF. The outfit they used fertilized 3 and implant one at a time, saying we don't think multiples are cute or funny if they can be avoided we do. They had good luck and had a little girl coincidentally born on my birthday:rolleyes: At any rate it was a great success for them and they are very happy with their decision.

Good luck and God bless.
