Anybody had gall bladder removed?

My two surgeons are still debating whether they want to take mine out or not. One does, one isn't sure. It started a few months ago and I'm pretty sick of it. Constant pain and nausea. Mine is overactive rather than underactive though so they're not sure.
I've heard of people getting it out and still having the same problems for years, that it didn't make any difference. I'd hate to have surgery for no reason. So, anybody? And what were the after effects? Did you still have to be on a fat free diet? Thanks.

gall bladder

Wife had hers removed because of gallstones and serious pain. She has to be careful what she eats- she is real bad with greasy food - i.e.-bacon, sausage, syrup etc. She also watches what she eats as far as spicy food as well. Others I have talked to don't skip a beat, just keep eating like they have always done with no ill- effects. I believe everyone reacts different.

Buddy had his taken out same week I had my appendix taken out, they said it would help his heartburn/acid reflux. He says it worked for the most part. He has to be careful what he eats still but he is doin alot better with other symptoms and cut way back on his prilosec bill...lol.

This will make you feel better:face-icon-small-hap. I did work to make the tools they use to take out your Gall Bladder:cool:...It was a pretty cool job. It works great so don't worry:cool:

I had mine taken out the 17th of this month. Had the lathroscopic surgery done and it worked great. I feel like a human again. My gallbladder was filled with stones and I had my first attack 3 months ago. I thought I had the flu because I was on percocet for my back so I didn't feel the full effect of the pain but it felt like a knife in my tummy and I threw up for 3 days.
On the 16th I had a pain that got worse through the day. Not being on pain killers, it took me till 2pm and I went to the ER. Very intense. I didn't want to go because it was my anniversary. I ended up spending the night in the hospital.
Things are fine so far. I try to eat low fat anyway, so there hasn't been a big change in my eating habits. The pain is completely gone now. It took 9-10 days for the pain from the surgery to be gone.
Do yourself a favor and get the surgery done. No one needs to deal with pain like that when it can be fixed with a couple weeks of down time.

I had mine removed about 5 months ago. It was blocked by a very large stone which caused it to become infected. My wife had hers removed a few years ago for the same reason. Hers went without a catch and she was back to normal within a couple weeks. My surgery went well but an antibiotic that I had to take afterwards caused problems. Seems there's good bacteria in your guts, and that antibiotic killed it off. Then the bad bacteria took over. It took about 3 weeks and another bottle of antibiotics to get that straightened out. That was pure hell. It took a couple more months before I could enjoy a sip of my favorite cognac. So before you scarf down any antibiotics, be sure to ask ol doc if they can cause C Dif, the doc will know what that is. And there are certain things you shouldn't eat while taking some antibiotics too. So ask questions and if you don't trust the answers, get a second opinion.

As far as greasy foods, my wife and I haven't had any troubles. We've been lucky and can eat whatever and as much as we want.

RLG,, I didn't git to see the nifty tools they used. They had me out in about 30 seconds after they strapped me to the slab. Next thing I remember is waking up in my room with a big plastic tube stuck in my weenie. All I could think of was HOW THE HECK DID THEY GIT THAT IN THERE!

Hmm. Plastic tube does not sound fun. I don't have any stones, the hida scan said it's at 79% which is high, meaning it's overreactive. The pain has subsided some since eating fat free now (mostly), but the nausea is bad. I've had to dry heave off a horse, I'm very sick in the mornings. Get lots of crap about morning sickness. When I do feel like having a drink I'm even sicker the next day. I'm not having many attacks anymore, but it still is very sore. I'm going to a second surgeon for a second opinion that they have to have considering the tests. But pretty sure they want to take it out. Just so I'm not just as sick afterwards. I've heard of that happening.
My doc said I could probably be riding horses in 3-4 days after surgery. Which would be good. Although I might just tell my boss to stick it and quit. Seems like a very fast recovery.

I have that same problem, I think its cuz Im gettin older! Not diabetic by chance are ya? Sux bein sick hope they get ya figured out soon.

Not diabetic. I eat healthy (except for beer and margaritas), I'm in pretty good shape, should be healthy. But no, I've been having nausea for years, mostly every morning for several years. But while sledding this winter I started having attacks. I thought I'd broken a couple ribs so I ignored it for a month or two. Finally went in cause I was so sick. Drinking and riding all day didn't help I guess! I'm pretty sure they'll take it out soon. Hope I really can be working again in 4 days like he says. I guess I'll see. I can't lay around longer than that or I'll go crazy. I get too bored.

I hear ya there, Id go crazy too. Especially living over where you are theres alot to do in the summer. I lived in Hailey for a few years, worked for Power it was a fun time! I had an emergency appendectomy last year went in on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday and only have 3 little scars to show for the $15k or whatever it ended up being. Youre young you should be good to go in 4 days no problem.

My sister had hers removed a few years ago. To this day she can't eat corn on the cob or a few other things because they make her sick. The doctors figure its due to the gall bladder but noone can tell her for sure.
