anybody ever think about a supercharger on an m1000?

has anybody ever thought about putting a supercharger on an m1000?,

i can get a smoking deal ($800) on a used rotrex charger kit from a yamy rhino...

interesting idea but it would take way too much work and would cost way more than a turbo kit, even if you could get the blower cheap. Plus a turbo is alot more efficient.

don;t think your two stroke got the torque to ever run a blower

So a 700cc rhino does but a 1000cc cat doesn't? Turns out its the revolutions of the motor that force the air in the intake with a supercharger, not the torque.

More rpm=More air
More air(combined with fuel)=More power
More power=more rpm

see how that works?

A supercharger is a cool idea, I've always liked the idea of instant power increase compared to turbo lag, but I can't think of how you could drive it off a 1000 though, would need a pulley off the magneto side or something to belt drive the supercharger.

There is a small company in Kamloops BC that has been building them. They have one on an M8 and a XP! I beleve. Not sure who makes the blower! I could try to get the # for you?

Mounting would be an issue but you could make a pulley off the back on the clutch some how they bolt the ring gear for the starter back there but im sure something could be done. I am a machinist and I know we have made some strange things here at our shop.

We have even put a supercharger on a cummins diesel pickup with a turbo.
No turbo lag at all.

You guys should read the thread in the performance section on super charger on 2 strokes. I only know what I read but it will not work on a 2 stroke. May have tried and all have failed. Read the thread

I have riden the supercharged M-8 here in Kamloops.I think it is a good idea due to the great low end power and throttle response that it is making. It is keeping up with the turboed M-8's around here, but I wouldn't say that it is beating them.It is still in the "developmental" stage,I would say,but is still working pretty good. Would be a great idea for guys who like boondocking lots. I talked to him about putting one on a M-1000,but he said that he would not be into doing it,due to the lack of 1000's out there, and some clearance issues.

I thought that they wouldn't work since two strokes are so sensitive to back pressure in the exhaust and a supercharger wouldn't be creating any more back pressure....does anyone have a link to the company building one it would be interesting to see their setup

I dont think they have a website yet but i will try to find some pics and video from this summers testing!

They might be able to work well for boonedocking but it does take torque to turn the blower so your starting hp is still down. After seeing these new pg m1000 run, the lag isn't really there and the power is smooth. The turbo will also build far more power on top. Even on a nytro the blowers don't put out as much as a turbo.

There is no lack of hp at low rpms.It is making boost pretty much off of idle.I would think that it will be fairly thirsty, being that it is making boost all of the time.I agree with you on the turboed 1000 though. When I hop off of mine onto the 800 turbo or supercharged, there is absolutely no comparison.I have little to no lag now that I have figured out my clutching, and it is a handfull at even 6lbs of boost. It takes me to places that used to be way out of reach!

the more boost you try to run the load it puts on the motor, in your theory the blower would have to be 100% efficient which it isn't. I research it quite a bit 3 years ago and found you will have the same money and less power. Things have changed since then but when someone already has a proven system and been working on it for a few years its really not worth it.

You can by a turbo on ebay for $600 vs $800 blower, and you would need just as much stuff to make it work plus a lot of tunning time.

the rhino is a four stroke

I am not saying it is better than a turbo.I have a turbo on my M-1000 and would not go to a supercharger even if they had one.Mine is working awesome. All I am saying is that I have riden this particular supercharged M-8 that we are talking about, and am trying to explain how it is working. It definately has more out of the hole than the turboed M-8's that I ride with, but it doesn't have the top end that they do.He said that he is having belt slippage issues with his charger, and he may have figured that out on his last ride as he found a broken mounting bolt on the system which may have affected the top end..Like I said before,it is in the developmental stage right now. They are not near any kind of production with it yet I would think.Cool idea, but I think it is going to be a hard sale against all of the turbo kits out there that are tried and proven. Will have to wait and see how it all works out.

I hear what you are saying, just arguing with the pull on the motor at idle, it may be better than a turbo off bottom but would be surprised if better than a stock sled. The M8's seem to have more lag off bottom and then explode with boost, the m1000's are smooth and monsters.
