Any tips for KTM 530exc 137"?

I am currently working on setting up my 2010 KTM 530exc with a 2013 137" timbersled kit.

Any suggestions for jetting, I will be riding 3000-6000ft mainly in southern BC. Currently the bike is well setup for the same riding area but at summer temps, is raising the needle enough or is a main jet increase necessary?

I plan to try and seal up the airbox with prefilter and adding additional openings in the side cover as well as modifying a wash cover with prefilter for my intake, any thoughts on this?

The KTM carb heater is on order as is a lithium battery. Are there any more budget friendly or must have modifications to consider?

Thanks, Dave

I hate to say it, but a lithium battery isn't on my short list of things considered an upgrade. I've yet to see one last a complete season without some form of failure. The weight savings isn't worth it.

As for jetting, just do your best to get the thing to start easily. They typically don't start very well, the 530's that is. I've got a 500 and that's a different bike which happens to start easily.

Where do you live and ride?

I mainly ride the West Kootenays, it doesn't get extremely cold so i hope the Shorai will still be effective.

Is it too late to return the Shorai?

I Ran a Shorai last winter.

I don't plan on making that mistake again.

I totally agree with Jon on this one!

There has been threads on this the executive summery is buy a lead acid Yuasa ytz-7s

Shorai Batteries barely work on a warm summer day.
I'll save the ST vs LT discussion for another day.

If your going to use a Shorai battery in the winter, Better hope your kick starter works..

as for the jetting. If it works in the summer, I would start there. then change if needed. We have had over 12 carbed bikes and jetting has stayed the same on most.

Long track rocks!!

I never changed the jetting (JD kit) on my KTM 450 from summer to winter. All in all it ran fine, the odd time it was a little fat but mostly it just ran the same. I use a ytz 7s and only kickstarted the bike once last year to see if I could do it. Unless the 530 uses a different carb than the 450 the carb heater is not a direct bolt on.

jetting suggestions ktm 530

Running a 168 MJ, 50 leak, 42 PJ and a JD red needle, for the last 4 seasons.
4 to 7000 ft. Have set up my riding buddies with the same jets in their 530's. Starts good and runs well.
Have fun.
