Any regrets after installing your turbo?

I am currently sitting on the fence in regards to a big bore kit or pump gas turbo. I was wondering if anybody had any regrets after putting a turbo on your sled. Was there more tuning and or maintenance then what you expected or was it a pull and go and never looked back once it was set up?

Thanks

i am building a 975 big bore as we speak on my 05 rmk 900...and this summer i am building a turbo on my 06 rmk 900...

if i was to only do one build...it would NO doubt a turbo...it will walk on any big bore...

people tell me all the time, the ONLY regret they have about doing a turbo...

IS NOT DOING IT SOONER, lol.....and i am sure everyone else will atest to that statement..

good luck in your decesion

as stated above my only regret to building my first turbo sled in 08 was not doing it sooner! for the price of a big bore kit to turbo your almost spending the same anymore and the turbo will take you far more places than a big bore

This is my first year running a turbo and I love it! Would I recommend it......yes! That answer depends on who's kit you are running as I only have experience with one maker. If you decide to do it let us know as there are a few tips that I would recommend it it will help to get dialed!

I put a BD PGT on an 08 D700 163. It was the best decision I have ever made in a mod. I rode it for 2 years and never regretted it. Ok, not true. I regretted it several times when I had to come back down something crazy that I had just climbed and it scared the piss out of me. Other than that,....no regrets, lol.
Only had minor issues with mine. Torn TB boot or a minor amount of tuning a couple different times out. But NOTHING that would prevent me from doing it over again.

If you decide to put a turbo here are my few tips for you. Buy new TB boots and reeds regardless of the condition of the ones you have. Make sure you use the stock pipe. Change your fuel filter and yearly after the install. Check your compression before starting and inspect your pistons for a baseline. Check your oil consumption before you start the turbo because you will also be in where you can adjust when installing the turbo.(Rich before the turbo is good) Check and set your TPS sensor when you have it torn down. Run straight AVGAS first time out for saftey. NEVER run it out of gas! Run egts, even if you put a AFR. Don't run mesh vents on side panels and get prefilter/frogskin covers for stock vents. Then just ask questions if you have any on the install. Then look for new riding buddies that have turbos because if your current ones don't they will only be going a 1/4 of the way up the hill that you just went over!!

my only regret is sending my control box back to get reflashed and it getting lost by ups. a month later im still waiting to get a new one

I definitely agree with most of what theshadowrider had to say. I've been running my turbo 700 for its 4th season, tore it down after 2 years, minimal wear in engine. Been running 10-12 lbs previously, this year at 13lbs. Staight c12 fuel. I run only an AFR, EGT's are extra protection. If you ride into the warm spring conditions in boost levels higher than 8lbs, RUN AN INTERCOOLER. Also, learn your setup as there are a few areas to fine tune. I have found my setup to be as reliable if not moreso than ANY big bore kit I have rode with.
