As the title states I need to remove spider nut and spider (I have both specialty tools and the holder)....any reason not to let the impact do the work for me???

I need to remove shims to reset the belt to sheave side clearance....

Any other suggestions??

Heat?

Thanks,
Murph

personally i never use an impact on my clutches! the clutches are made of cast aluminum, and any metal that is cast is very brittle. an impact could easily crack or break the clutch! plus its hard to just how much force an impact is actually putting out! try using a breaker bar with about a 24" handle, i use a bernzomatic torch some times to help break the loctite loose. i prefer usinng the bernzomatic so that i dont over heat anything and warp my clutch. the spider nut gets torqued to +-210 ftlbs, and my 250lb torque wrench is only about 18" long... so it shouldnt take much more than a 24" breaker bar to get it loose!

I would not use one. Avoid the jarring/hammer effect of the impact gun. A little heat and using a breaker bar smoothly will get it! Biggest thing in doing so is making sure your holding fixture is 100% secured to a good bench!

NO

Impact gun will do more damage than good
We use the burnzomatic and a 18" bracker bar with about a 4' cheater pipe
works everytime
