Yeah, I'm furloughed too. Second time since I worked for NPS. Last time was in December during Clinton years. If they do this again next year, I will have enough reason to retire and sled full time! Hang in there!

I work on a gubment contract, and they cancelled an international training we were supposed to have this week. Business as usual other than that is what my contracting officer said, so fingers crossed. Sure does suck this close to mobilin' season. Hoping I'm not scrounging up work just to keep the bills paid in a few months.

That didn't take long............... Just got a call about a pre-shutdown meeting today haha. Glad the contract has a 3 month de-mob clause written into it. Still hoping it doesn't come down to that. 'Murica!

I heard on the radio that the congress passed a motion so all the workers furloughed will get back pay for not working. Timing could have been better if they waited until January for the furlough though.

Seriously....that would be kind of a sweet deal in the meat of riding season or summer. Unless you're in to hunting, this is a bogus time of the year for time off!

Ralph, they don't get paid necessarily. With the sequester, my mom had every Friday off for 6 weeks without pay. She was out of work for a few days, she has to wait and see if she will get paid or not. They also had to work 4 hours w/o pay on the day of the shutdown waiting to sign the furlough notices. Ultimately I think it is BS to pay anybody if they weren't actually working, all that does is put us deeper in debt for nothing. I don't get paid for nothing and neither should a govt employee, including my mom.

I hear you. But if my company came to me and said go home until we say come back because we screwed up and can't pay you. It's not your fault you got sent home until the money is found or whatever those clowns are trying to achieve. IMO, this shutdown is doing nothing but killing the things that bring revenue in to the govt. For a lot of people, any more than 2 weeks without a paycheck will hurt. badly.

I know lots of people have heard we will get paid back pay, but here is what I understand. Back pay has not been voted on by the Senate yet. I have also heard it only applies to those who were forced to work during the shutdown without pay. No back pay for those of us who are furloughed involuntarily. Not yet, anyway. I was on vacation for the first week, but vactation was cancelled and I am in the same boat. None of us can take vacation since that is a paid status and we are all unpaid at this time. I don't know about others, but i filed for unemployment on Monday. Gotta pay the bills!

If your company sent you home because they don't have the money to pay you is called life. Happens to companies all the time. The difference is those companies go out of business, they don't get to borrow untold trillions with no plan to pay it back.

I am not furloughed yet....but, who knows if I will be getting a paycheck until this shutdown is done. I just love how the president and congress don't get "deferred" pay. They still get their check on time.

Check it out. Both mine and mill are hiring. You might not get 40 paid holidays a year but you will have a job that most likely won't send you home, benefits, and the bennies aren't bad. And the work isn't that hard. Plenty of Grand County folks from all over that you can catch a ride with.
