We will be going to Denver From Minnesota,, to see the inlaws over Thanksgiving... Is it worth taking the sleds?? And if so.. Should I go south and west of Denver?? Or head for the Walden area?? We normally ride twice a year at the snowies, looking for something new.. Will it be worth it to take the sleds?? What is the normal snow conditions for thanksgiving???

Any Advice would help

Thanks
Jason

That time of year is always iffy - some years it is great, others I go bird hunting. I would wait until the week before to make your decision based on what you are seeing/reading on the forums.

Rabbit Ears and Vail seem to get some decent early snow, but it always depends on the storm patterns.

Most likely the snow will not be set up so you will have to be very careful of the rocks/stumps if you ride an unfamiliar area - or just bring up spare A-arms, shocks, etc......

Just my opinion though - I'm sure others will chime in too.

We are usually riding Vail Pass that time of year. But just how much of it depends on what winter is doing. Some years we are just riding the roads to get out and get the sleds ready. Other years we can venture off into the fields. It's still sketchy riding because you don't know if a big rock or tree stump will jump out and attack you.

I'd postpone visiting them on T-day and do it over Christmas instead. That way you can get New Years in too.

And no, maybe for a local to rip up a road that weekend for an hour, but I most certainly wouldn't spend the time and fuel to drag them all of the way from MN to ride in 6-15" of baseless snow, smoke a rock/stump and end the season.

Leave em at home

Not your average year, but about 1 out of every four is actually not bad by Turkey day. Keep an eye on the weather!

But that was Buff pass, from the Walden side. Many other areas didn't have squat yet. CO Matt drove 5 hours from SOCO to hit it with me. I think CO2.O was riding 4' on Buff in October after a big storm. Let's hope for another great winter :)

Agreed - last winter was a good one for early snow. I hope the same pattern settles in for this riding season.

Road rides, little off trail if you know where

Otherwise, the real riding doesent start until December

For me its not worth detroying a sled or getting hurt before the season even starts......

Got too much riding to do.............

Yeah very tough to say if its worth it. My last November was more like Bushy's photos, but the one before that my buddy was on his sled no more than 10 minutes and took out an a arm, shock, a arm mounts, and plastics on a rock.
Of course, if you're driving a pickup, don't plan on having much in the bed, and could meet up with some locals, may as well through your sled in, they don't weigh that much:face-icon-small-ton

Edit: I think I posted the first pow pics of the season on here...October 24th http://www.snowestonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=230654
