any BOSTON WHALER fans?

that is a SHARP looking boat.

I'd love to get a 18 or so footer someday.

Up at the lake we have a 14 foot whaler, probably an early 70s model. Needs a new motor as the last one got fried and probably new running gear as it's been sitting.

But the boat, other then sun fade is in amazing shape.

It's high on the get running list. It's just hard to beat a Whaler.

Hey OONT, just curious, did you spend much time on this boat on the water? What did you think of the ride? I'm only asking because a buddy of mine had one with a 225 Optimax on it, and while it was one of the driest boats for it's size that I have ever been on, it would pound the living sh*t out of you in tight chop. I mean beat you senseless.

Beamy as all get out though. Felt much bigger than it was. Fit and finish on those things is excellent as well.

That one you have is clee-eeaan! Somebody will be very happy.

ive spent about 5 days (5-6 hours each) on this boat.. from calm water to chop on the tampa bay to 2 footers or so on the gulf.. the gulf has very close waves. it handled very good. i read somewhere that with twin engines it makes it heavier, therefore giving it a better ride. i also read that guys with single engines put a ballast in them to add weight for a better ride.. but, it also sounds like maybe had it trimmed way up, need to nose right into the chop and let the nose run right through that sh!t.. he got trim tabs on his?

woodpecker, yes, it is in florida.. only a couple days ride from anywhere in the states.. ;)

Yeah, Bennett tabs. Honestly don't remember if he added ballast or not. He tried everything else, tabs, trim, jackplate, you name it, it still pounded hard. Hard. I've spent my fair share of time on boats (fished everything from a bay boat to a 65' Viking sportfisher and everything in between) and that Conquest was the probably worst boat in a close period head sea I've ever been on (ok, maybe a slight exaggeration, but only slightly). One trip we were out with another boat of the same length, a Grady-White Gulfstream 232. Waves were a true 3', with an occasional 4' thrown in, and tight. The difference between the two boats was astounding coming back into a head sea. You could actually have a cup of coffee at the helm of the GW, but you'd have 3rd degree burns if you tried to drink coffee in the BW.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing the boat. There are plenty of things that boat does very well. Overall sea-keeping abilities are great, I love the eurotransom with the door, and as I said before, the hardware and fit and finish on the boat is top notch. You can buy one and expect it to last you 20+ years if you take care of it. I just thought it rode really awful in a tight head chop. Wondered if you had found the same to be true.

hmmm.. weird.. i think this boat rides great but, maybe i haventbeen out in big enough seas in it...

i just noticed you are from st paul.. guess what, at one point this boat was in st paul. you can just barely make out on the back of the boat where someone had a decal, it says "port of st paul"..
