any bobcat mechanics out there?

lent my machine to a neighbor and he did some damage. Looks like he ran along side a driveway pad and one of the tracks came off its rollers and started shifting toward the main body of the machine. He didnt notice it at first and proceeded to shred half the track off.

changing the track seems not too bad, but there is fluid leaking all down the side of the main drive sprocket. That has me worried.

Gonna talk to Bobcat service monday, but I am thinking its gonna be a long wait for service.

2 questions, do you put two new tracks on so they match or just repalce the wrecked one?

Any suggestions as to what might have caused the fluid leak? I am thinking maybe the extra tension from the track rubbing may have caused a seal to pop.

Your tracks could care less if they match.

You write that it shredded half the track off...but in the pic, I see some chunks hanging on the bolts. Did you mean literally half, as in cables popping out? Or is it just chunks?

Changing them is easy, especially the small ones. No idea what the wet spots are, but my guess in it's grease from the tension cylinder. Should be able to find that out real easy when you pop the track off.

Lending equipment to your neighbor??? Now you know why that isn't done :p

I agree with Good to Go in that the tracks not matching up side to side isn't that big a deal unless on hard level ground the bucket doesn't sit level and then it will not hold level grade.

My quess on the leak it that something like twine or wire wrapped around the drive motor output shaft and damaged the shaft seal. It looks like the drive sprocket can be removed and the seal replaced from the outside.

tech booked

bobcat service is coming tuesday am

131.00 per hour for the mech tech and truck.

betting a Gnote by the time he's done, depending on the seal issue.

Dang, I'll be in Edmonton Friday morning... Let me fix it and I'll pay for my trip...lol

Let us know what he finds. Again, unless the track is showing cable, leave it alone. They is expensive.... :p

We went to metal tracks years ago for the mini. Never looked back. The demo work was killing the rubber ones along with other issues.

What is that? some kind of kit from a wheel version to tracks?

I know on the track versions we have, we blew the seal on the drive motor and it ended up being a $2600 fix. As far as the track goes, just run it till it breaks or keeps popping off. We go through 2 sets of tracks a year, but after a week or 2, they look like most do when they replace them. rocks are not friendly to rubber tracks.

good luck.

drive motors aren't cheap. they don't repair them most of the time. you buy a remaufactured motor. i know i've bought them before about 4500 for a t-250 installed for 1 the fawkin thing has 2 not a good day when **** happens. motor alone is 3800
