Hi guys,
I just bought a 1000 summit x which has a bad lower rod bearing.

I split the case today and sent it off to JJmachine for a rebuild.

I want to get my ducks in order for the rebuild, and have a few questions:

#1 The water pump shaft cavity was filled with oil. Is this normal? Do I need to fill it at install?

#2 The crank bearings have a small pin in them. Does this rest on top of the case?

#3 Any trick to lining up the outboard balancing gears?

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get started.

thanks
DK

That guy is bar-none without exception the most knowledgeable 1000SDI information poster I have seen on the internet.

If anyone would be able to point you in the correct direction it would be him.

#1 The water pump shaft cavity was filled with oil. Is this normal? Do I need to fill it at install?-not totally sure on this one.

#2 The crank bearings have a small pin in them. Does this rest on top of the case?-should just rest in the on the cases.

#3 Any trick to lining up the outboard balancing gears?-should be small dots on the gears to line them up.
I'm sure I'll have more questions as I get started.

Also make sure u put extra Isoflex grease in the bearings and gears.

throw your factory airbox in the dumpster and get some pods, or a timbersled intake on it. I sugest finding a way to do an external intake and get it away from the belt. I just pulled mine apart after I thought the problem was fixed with a pod and there was a 6" cord off my belt wrapped through the reed cage, as well as a layer of belt dust and oil throughout the intake. Definately not good for a new bottom end!!!

pods are a good choice.. always,

as for your questions, the pins on your bearings lay in the little notches between the case halves..

on the balance gears, there are dots on both of the gears that interface, line them up and install.

and for the pump area being filled with oil, the oil resiviour feeds that whole area and keep it lubed, put a little in it, but dont worry.

and lots of grease never hurt anything.

FYI I think Cycle Parts Nation has a good price on reman Doo cranks.

50ml of 2cycle oil in the water pump cavity.

As the above guys posted extra ISO grease, line the dots up and put the tits in the case notches GOOD TO GO.
