Another TM8 Won't Start...

Hey guys,
If it weren't for snowest forums I don't think I'd own a turbo sled, I need more help.

My 2008 M8 Boondockers Race Gas Turbo won't start. It started doing it a few rides ago, but now it is much worse. It would always start in about 1-3 pulls. Two weeks ago was the first time it gave me trouble, in the morning first time starting it for the day I pulled and pulled and pulled without it starting. Finally on the 50th pull or so it started up and idled fine, gave me no problems the rest of the day. The next day I brought it out it started up first pull in the morning, but mid day it wouldn't start. I always let it idle down and egts are under 600 deg before I shut her off, so I don't think it was heat soaked. It probably took me 100 pulls to start her, but then gave me no problems the rest of the day.

The day after that it did it to me about 3 times and now I can't get it started at all. It won't even try to start. Sounds like I am pulling it with the kill switch turned off. Fuel pressure is about 38psi when I pull it a few times, it usually runs at about 42+. Reeds were changed a few hundred miles ago, plugs look fine.

I am thinking its an electrical problem? Some loose connection somewhere? Water somewhere? Maybe the ignition switch? What should I start checking first, this thing has way too many damn wires... Even though I have 38psi fuel pressure could it somehow be a problem with the fuel pump?? Because the fuel pressure is pretty inconsistent. Sometimes after 5 pulls I am around 40psi, sometimes its about 20psi.....

Thanks

Sled need two things to start. Spark and fuel. Sounds like you have fuel i would check spark next

Spark

I'll check spark today... If no spark what should be the first thing I check? Check for water in ECU? Ignition switch?

Check your pick coil ohms/resistance. The pick up tells the motor when to trigger the spark but what most people don't know it also operates as a crank angle sensor which tells the injectors at what time and space the crank is and when to fire the injectors. Just an option and it's easy to check. It should be done when it won't start. Good luck.

More Info

What are your fuel setting? Your 3000 rpm Lo needs to be 00.

Have experienced a hard starting tm8 with -02 in the 3000 Lo.

No reason to pull your sled over that many times, pull a plug. Is the plug dry, no gas. If wet you have gas, put the plug back in the cap ground to something metallic and pull over to check spark.

My guess is plugs are dry,

Cat dealer could diagnose in a short time, My dealer in South Fork will not freak out just because you have turbo. Twine Pine Motorsports

Water

If your looking for water then start with the Cat ecu, assuming it's still there and functioning. One of my sealing rings is pooched and until I find a solution to that problem that doesn't involve re-wiring the entire fromt end I continue to clean the one plug on the stock ecu. water in it every time after a big day of powder and the entire nose is filled with snow. I've been told that the injector wire connections can also cause greif with water.

Hook up a 12v source to the fuel pump and try it, then hook it backwards to reverse the pump then hook it back up right, sometimes it works. If still nothing disconnect the temp sensor and if it fires hook it back up and try, or blow on the baro tube to increase air pressure/ the ecu will give it more fuel. I would assume theres a sensor going out. Check for spark to. check the injector wires where the bd box plugs into them, i've seen many that broke or rubbed through right at the injectors.

sounds like your fuel settings may be low. I know at 38 lbs and my 3000 low at 00 sometimes it would take forever to start once it was warm. try bumping up your lower numbers a little. Did you check for spark?

No Spark

Should have checked spark first thing, and sure enough, I can't get it to spark. What could have rattled loose? I'll try the stuff you guys already suggested, but anything else? ECU seems to still be hooked up right and doesn't seem to have any water in it or near it. Ignition switch still hooked up right... Does anyone have a good sequence of what I should check from first to last?

Thanks

being a bd kit I would start by looking at the injector wires, if they ground out it will cut spark and I have seen a few ground out on the heat shield. I would prob disconnect, pull the bd box off and see what happens. Check the ground to the bd box, steering loop, and recoil. disconnect the hood wiring and all the handle bar wires.
