Another theft

Last night some d bag stole the hood off my M sled. Got home about 10 pm from riding and by 10am this morning it was gone. The only night it didnt get put right in the garage when we got back. The *** holes cut the wiring harness instead of simply un pluging it, cut the wires the keep it from folding all the way out. Who ever did it knew exactly what they were after and came prepared. This was on the south side of town near Abbott Fred Meyers.
They obviously were not very smart as they left the brand new Boss seat on it. The hood had two Klim stickers on both sides near the straps, a "SS" badge riveted to the nose of the hood and some dandy glue work as it has been cracked. The air intake has also been removed off the cowling. There is to many cracks that I have put in that hood and it is very distingusihing to me. I go riding every weekend and if youre the dumbas* that took it, you better make sure you do a fine job of making it look different from when you stole it because I will NOT be asking any questions when I take it back in front of all your buddys. If any one see's or hears of anything please let me know.

Rant over

Also, they had to of known that the sled is kept where it is. It was about 100 yards off the road and not visible from the street. It was 10 feet from the front door of the house. Keep an extra close eye on your stuff guys, people are getting more and more ballsy these days.

First off sorry to hear about this kind of crap. Seems a lot of it lately. I hope someone catches them. I have recently added a few webcams around my house that didn't cost me a dime. We had a couple of the $19 webcams laying around and I had ran across an article about making them into motion sensitive security cameras. Works good, maybe someone can get a face or vehicle on camera if enough people do something like the link I will post below. I know that don't help you now, but maybe someday.

A determined thief is hard to beat (except with a baseball bat) but making it as difficult as possible is the name of the game. If left in the yard, I use those 15 foot heavy duty cables you find at Lowes or Home Depot, and the largest padlocks I can find, you can get multiple locks with the same key. Wind it thru the A arms and rear suspension and around another sled, a tree, a pole, whatever you have available. Sure it can be cut if they show up with the right tools but idea is to make it difficult and get them to move on. If the sleds are on a trailer, I also use another cable and fasten the sleds to the trailer and to the truck. Don't make it easy, and when you catch them, please call me.

It is very scary how easy it is to cut a lock!!! I locked the keys in my cube van the other night so I took the bolt cutter to the lock on the back door. It was a nice 3/8 lock and it probably took me 20 seconds longer than it would have by using the key. Then tonight I had another lock that was locked on a grab bar just to hold it and I didn't have a key so I figured I would do a little test on that one as well. It was one of the nice locks that are protected on the sides for a bolt cutter and that one as well probably only took 30 seconds even though you had to cut the pin in two places to get it out. Guns and watch your stuff is the only way you can know for sure your stuff will still be there.

a BIG AZZ NOISY DOG, to give you time to grab yer gun. wireless cams that hook to a VCR or computer, start by motion detection are fairly inexpensive and work

Sorry Aksleds

What is really disheartening to me is that many of the thief's are among us. :face-icon-small-fro Not necessarily here on SW, but they ride snowmachines. It is obvious that they know what they want and how to remove it mechanically.

21 barky, annoying sled dogs that will go nuts over the slightest sounds or people in their yard. And the 12 gauge right by the door.

Sucks to hear about this kind of thievery:mad:

Is there any way we can start a bulletin board with a list of things stolen? Remove all the chit chat so we have a quick reference place with information. Even the lost/stolen sickie is cluttered with text. Maybe someone like Shwee (sorry about the volunteer!:o) could enter them on a special thread so people couldn't chat it up.
Just make , model, yr, special identifying marks, picture and ph #.
Maybe even a sign up sheet for the vigilante crew that would like to recover lost items!

As much o a pain in the azz it is I'd like to see the troopers or Forest service personnel at least ask to see a registration for a sled when they are cruising the trail heads and parking area. A can of paint is all it takes for these punks to ride your sled until they leave it abandoned or burnt down somewhere.

I have all my light's outside hooked to a motion detector, it won't stop anyone but I think it's a deterrent.

You'd like to think so but someone broke into our truck in the early evening a couple weeks ago - truck was in our drive, lights outside were on, and we were inside watching tv. We never heard a thing.

Thieves are just getting bolder and bolder.

Maybe it's my license plates that keep them away "magnum" :D

I can totally do that. I can unlock the thread so I can enter the info and then re-lock it as I need to. People just need to let me know the info and send me a pic and I will be more than willing. If something gets found, I can edit the post. Hopefully that happens a lot. :beer;

Excellent idea!

I was informed earlier to NOT ride my sled until I have the harness hooked into the gauges and lights or it will fry the ecu. I found a resistor kit online that will alow opperation without frying the ECU but I dont know if I can get one before the weekend. And I definately do not have the cash for a whole new hood, lights, gauge, and harness. What to do
