another scam?

i was enquiring about an enclosed trailer for sale on craigs list and here is the response.

Sorry for my late response ,because of my job i sometimes can't reply to fast.I work at the hydrological and meteorological Observation Station in Alert,Ellesmere Island,Nunavut.I'm stuck here for the next 3 months and after that i have to move to another station in Europe for another year and i won't be needing the trailer there.At this time the trailer is located in Baker Lake,Nunavut is still available for sale at the price of 3.100.00 CAD.We can use the eBay vehicle Purchase Protection service to handle this deal if you are not able to pick it up.

It's a scam! Why is his picture using a picture hosting site? Wouldn't he just list the ebay auction? Scammers love to use that vehicle protection crap from ebay.

However, to ease the pick up, the item will be picked-up from you by my shipper once you receive and cash the check, I am willing to wait for your bank to verify and clear the check before the shipper pickup the item therefore I'll need this detail below to mail out the check to you asap...

* Mailing address (Deliverable Address)
* Phone Number

Proceed to delete the advert of this item if my mode of payment is accepted and get back to me asap with your details to mail out the check to you.

Oh yeah pretty common, I got the exact same statement on an item I was selling a while back. But the guy actually would call me. If you screw with them you can get them to say they will pay you almost double for what your asking... lol.

You can tell by the first sentence it's a scam...

One way to weed them out is to ask for a phone number to call them. This doesn't assure anything other than most of the scammers I've dealt with won't talk on the phone. I was suprised to see that 98psi700RMK got someone to talk on the phone. I've noticed that the scammers are trying to make you feel secure with ebay vehicle protection service now.

Anytime someone wants you to complete the transaction through Ebay when it's not an Ebay item its a scam.

yeah i know it was a scam just wanted people to be aware of this... Pretty freakin obvious that this guy is a phoney! Is this something that can be reported to the authorities?
